That would be a hard one to do as there are members with 1000's of posts

The whole idea with having a minimum requirement would be to show that the member being nominated has been here for a while and not a fly by night person. Sure, some people join to get info and leave, also to be able to access info they can't see as a guest.

I think having some sort of post minimum would be good. Having a time length may not be so helpful as we have many members who have been members for a long time but don't post much. They are more lurkers.

So a post requirement could work agains a long time member? I knwo what you are saying though. A long time member who is a lurker and doesn't post much isn't posting and helping out. They may have only like say 80 posts in 2 years. now those 80 posts might all be very helpfull but unless they were all recent posts how could they make MOTM?

I was only suggesting a link that would like when you view your profile that would say "all post by hemiman" for a unseasoned member It would be a simple way of looking at the member and making an educated decision. the feature is already there if I click on a member and go to there profile and seach their posts. trying to make it simpler for the user.

I think we need to focus on who can vote/nominate, not BE nominated

people don't have to be helpful in order to NOMINATE someone for MOTM who is helpful. they just need to be around Long enough to make an educated nomination

Yes this link does exist. When members are nominated you can go to their Profile. If you click the Statistics tab I think you can then click the link "all posts by ShawnC13" and "All threads started by ShawnC13"

Whatever is changed,if anything is changed, let's make it simple. From what I have seen, I don't think this is a big problem. It might come up on a rare occasion but probably not often enough to change the system. This forum has a good thing going...Is it perfect? no, but it's pretty damn good in my opinion.

I think there are many people who first join and get excited with a new thing and go crazy, get nominated, win and then flame out. It was more of a challenge for them (whether they want to admit it or not), the challenge is gone and they move on to something else in their life. I think this is always going to be the case....it's human nature.

I've seen it too many times in my workplace where a small, rarely occuring problem comes up and suddenly we feel the need to change the system. I am also guilty of it. Then, when we look at the big picture, maybe what we have is working just fine.

This kind of discussion is awesome! It really shows that there are many members who really care about the quality of the forum.

Sorry my bad mind twisted it a bit. You could have the above mentioned member with only say 15 posts but if they are here for 2 years and lurk and read they will know who is a fitting member to nominate. So a post count could really hurt this long time member. Sorry thoughts were getting twisted around. Guess that is what happens when I am at work and doing that and trying to keep up here.

I do have to agree with TVL, maybe it's not as big of an issue as it might have seemed when I brought it up. I think we all agree the point is we need to emphasize MEMBER of the month not popularity or truck.

this was all about the people voting/nominating , not the nominees and winners
