Default HELP! just throwing this out there...

I want to buy a painted "factory type" hood scoop and instead of the aftermarket CAI I have now I was thinking about cutting a hole in the hood below the scoop and placing an air intake directly on to the throttle body.
Any reason to worry about rain, etc...?
Thanks, Bryan

It does not help you a bit and will decrease the performance beside permanent wet airfilter in the rain.
The original airbox is designed as a ram-airbox (nothing to do with the name of your truck).
The air gets straightened an the turbulences in your intake gets snoothed out.
This is needed for a "turbolike" loading effect at higher rpm's.
Means, if yiu don't do major intake and motor modifications, you will have a lot of annoying noise and nothing goes forward.
Leave it li is and enjoy the look. Lack of power cost gasoline , too.
Abd if you don't really know what you doing, yiu break more than you do good.
Don't be offended, but I prefere to be honest.

Chris

I would have to agree with him ^^^^^^

Probably not worth permanently modifying your hood.

Default Ouch !!!

Now I'm going to cry myself to sleep!, kidding, and thank you for the responses....I love the look of the hood scoop and I just wanted it to be functional for cheap cost, however I take your insight and will not cut into my hood..thanks, Bryan

Just think about-if you would invent a simple intake part, easy to produce, effective and easy to install...-would you chrome it, put it in a fancy box and sell it for $29.99 at autozone?
I wouldn't.
I would make real money off it. That's the reason why real tuning is not for $69.99 at e-bay.
And before I tune an engine, I get me the factory high end and go from there.
And we talking about high-5-figures. Everything else-no matter who says the opposite-is just moneymaking crap. Worthless and harms the engene more that it does anything good.
You got it right. Put the money in in- and exteriir. Looks good and makes ur truck to an expression of your personality. I like that better.
