Well, let's see. If you ask about fuel economy within the first paragraph then it's significant enough as a determining factor in your purchase. I owned an '03 Ram 1500 Hemi before it was wrecked, and I currently own an '08 Ram 3500 Cummins. Surprisingly the Cummins actually does get better fuel economy than the Hemi. I can't tell you MPG because here we use Litres/100km. Either way if fuel economy is your concern then you should strongly consider a Dodge Dakota. Realistically neither the Hemi or the Cummins will get you good fuel economy.

Also keep in mind that if you upgrade the performance you are most likely to add extra weight to your right food, which would lead to more frequent fuel fill-ups.

You are gonna get better mileage out of disel tho so its not very comparable to a gas engine. Also the dakotas hardly get better mileage then the ram its only 1 or 2 mpg tops. Im in canada and it costs me right now around 85-90 to fill up my tank seeing gas here runs us about 90-99 cents per litre as of the last little bit. Im gonna drive it till i cant afford it anymore.

I have a '07 2500 with the hemi and regular gearing and tires, 4x4, K&N air filter. I get 10 mpg hauling and 18 or so empty. The biggest difference is how heavy your foot is.

$1.00/Litre is cheap. Over here 87 octane is $1.12/Litre and when I fill up on 94 octane for my Audis it costs me $1.28/Litre! Either way my Cummins had far better fuel economy than my Hemi, but if you want great fuel economy you certainly can't get one in a truck. Many people here mention trying to get better gas mileage but yet they're driving Hemis and such. It certainly isn't realistic. You can't have Dodge Viper performance and Ford Focus fuel economy.

My dad's 5.9 Cummins pulls about 22 to 24 mpg mostly highway. I usually average anywhere from 14 to 17 with my Hemi. The 17 figure is little city driving. However in windy conditions I have had as low as mid 13s on the highway
