Default Slipped timing

Well I think I slipped timing on my car. Car was running great, suddenly it lost a ton of power, started to sound like a lawn mower. I couldn't get over 3000 RPM, didn't look like it was boosting at all, but I kind of figured it might not have enough pressure. I pulled off the road and imediately it died. The engine wouldn't turn over, so I figured the valves must have tipped the piston. I'm gonna go out tomorrow and pick it up. Hopefully I get my truck back soon, I'm tired of the Toyota Camry already.

How old is the car and how many miles are on it?

Cars with rubber band timing belts have a service interval for them. Unfortunately, it seems to be the one thing that nobody ever feels the need to keep up with like they are supposed to, yet its failure will result in catastrophic engine damage.

Gotta love interference engines with rubber bands. My father's old Subaru wagon it was like clockwork, like 50,000 miles or something like that (late 80's). One time he put it off and a hair over 50,000 it let go.

The 4 cyl Toyotas have a chain, I believe. I bought a new Tacoma 4 cyl once, Toyota forgot to put tensioners in when they built the motor. I kept complaining that it sounded like a diesel and ran weird. Finally I paid them to tear down the motor-- oops, no tensioners. Oh I also owned 2 new Camrys, 4 cyl with 5 speed manuals. Good on gas but you fall asleep driving them cause they were boring as going to a grannie knitting party.
