Default 4th Gen Stock Nav dimensions

Hey all. I was wondering if someone could provide me with the dimensions of the stock navigation HU opening on the 2009-2011 models. I have found some HUs that are suppose to be a direct fit for the 2009-2011 and am wondering if I could use one of those HUs on my 2006. Thanks guys!

2009 - 2012 Ram radios are what is called 1.5 DIN
Din measurements do not include depth, how far it goes into the dash

The measurement of a standard DIN slot is 2-1/8” (50mm) height by 7-1/8” (180mm) width

the Double DIN sized radio is a 4" x 7".

so a 1.5 DIN radio should be 3" x 7"

---------------------------------------------------------
the 2009 - 2012 Rams use what is called a HIGH SPEED CanBus

your 2006 radio uses a Low Speed CanBus

If you want a better radio then you currently have, go to the CRUTCHFIELD website
go to the outfit my vehicle section
check off the options that you want, ie:
Bluetooth, Ipod, CD player, Satellite, etc.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PfGK2bt...Video-GPS.html

you will have a list of radios
some will read FITS & others will read MODIFIED FIT
modified fit usually means that with a bit of trimming to your dash, a 4" x 7" radio will fit
you will also need a front bezel that goes where the current one is

youtube has several videos about this process

this video is a different year then yours, but watch it to see how they trimmed the radio opening

you could also do something like this, if your into CB radio within the radio

this is what a double din bezel looks like for the 2006 Dodge Ram

Thank you GTYankee for that plethora of information. I do appreciate your time and input that you put into that post. Perhaps I need to clarify though.

I am acquiring a navigation bezel for my 2006 that I intend to use to put a nav system in. With that being said, I have found some nav head units that are suppose to have the same OEM fit. In the image of the last video, it shows a double din opening and not the same opening as that of the nav units. The nav units are typically slightly wider and taller than a standard double din unit as demonstrated in the 2nd video of a standard 2-DIN aftermarket HU placed in a navigation bezel.

So, the reason for the question of the size is because I have found some 3rd party direct factory replacement HUs for 2009-2011 model Rams that I am curious if it would fit into the standard 2006 navigation bezel without the adapter to fill in the area around the HU.

I know the internet can poorly portray tone via text so I want to make sure that I mean no disrespect with this post.
