a cooler motor will always perform better than a hot one..he's looking to add easy pony's and an 180 tstat, altho technically doesn't add pony's.. will make the motor perform better as well as the secure sense of not running too warm and a bigger chance of detonation... us guys who actually work on our motors aren't under the impression"its gotta be a mopar part or else it ain't goin in"...I mean, who thinks that way? I've been running a $25 Taurus efan for the last 4 years and over 150k miles and unless I told you so, you couldn't stick your head between the motor and fan and tell it came from a mfg other than chrysler ...that's the best $25 I've ever spent. I guess he could spend hundreds of $$$ and get a viper fan to do the exact same thing..and still you couldn't tell who made that fan either..

and a 180 tstat is as cool a tstat you'd want to run in a daily driver, anything lower and you'll have to be content with the tstat check engine codes. 170 tstats for track only purposes (burns too much fuel for daily driving)..and 160's if your driving and 80's ram..

Jet chips makes a 180 stat part # 10183 for anyones intrest and if you don't want to go that cool Stant makes a 190 part #48799. Factory looks like a 203

both the Duralast 4128 (180) $13.99 and 4127 (170) $12.99 fit and also have the blocker like the stock (unlike the Jet). @ Autozone

Well once again like in his question he asked was about an electric fan, nothing about a T-stat. The fan removal will give him some hp. As far as the 180 stat the truck may run worse possibly without a tune cause the computer will see the engine is running cool and will compensate with a rich condition. I agree with you on the fan, one guy makes and everyone reboxes... but if that's what the guy wants to do, he can.
