Default 8" sub question

In my ram I had 12" Kicker CVR subs hooked up to a 1000w amp. Well one of the subs melted something a few weeks ago and the other one is crackling so its about to go also. They are a few years old and have been used and abused and Im at a point in my life were well really I know I don't need to mess up my hearing more than it already is from rifle ranges and all the other crap ive been exposed to. Im looking just to have good sounding bass. I replaced the stock speakers with Kicker 3 way in front and Kicker 2 way speakers in the back so without a sub I basically don't have any bass what so ever. Ive considered 2 8" subs with a 300w amp to put under my back seat in custom boxes that Im going to build. I haven't had any experience with small subs like these and I don't want to spend the money on a brand that is just gonna blow or sound like crap. Also would you recommend a ported or sealed box for them? I know sealed is more for sound quality and ported is loudness more less. Ive wire everything myself so I wont be needing help with that I just need to know what will be worth my time and money. Ive looked at Lanzar VW84 and the Pyle PLBW84.

Thanks in advance and any advise is welcomed.

Sundown Audio hands down. Best 8" sub you will ever hear. IMHO. Price is right and they bang for 8"s. There are reviews all over the web, youtube, etc. SD-2 for small depths and 300 watts rms and SA-8 if you got 500rms to go to it.

I would have to agree with this^^^ SA-8's are an amazing 8" subwoofer.
Iam not a huge Alpine fan anymore, but their 8" Type-R is an amazing sub as well. I have to give credit where credit is due
Both subs will suprise you, and you can get them for right at or around $100/EA
