Chrysler transmissions to be a mixed bag

According to Allpar sources, while Chrysler
works on building eight-speed automatics, Fiat front-drive dual-clutch automatics, and its own six-speed transverse-engine automatic, it also seems to be planning to continue use of Mercedes WA580 five-speed automatics for rear wheel and All Wheel Drive applications. The upcoming Pentastar engine will, it appears, be used with both the Mercedes five-speed and the Chrysler six-speed automatic; the latter will also be coupled to a two-liter Fiat diesel. Other plans, including the destination for the eight-speed rear-drive transmission, are still uncertain.

whoa...that would be a tech's nightmare to keep up with all those combinations. However, I suspect they will be platform specific and not spread across the whole Fiat/Chrysler/Dodge line.

The Mercedes transmission is pretty stout, too bad they wouldn't put it in the Rams.

I know, that is Dodges Achilles Heel. The transmissions that they use limit the mods that can be done to the trucks. The transmissions can't handle the HP, and are very sensitive to programming changes. If they used the Mercedes NAG1, all those problems would go away.
