Default Transmission level

I want to be sure if I really need to add tranny oil.
What is the proper way to check the level.
I read that the truck has to be hot, when I checked it was a little low.

To check the fluid level in any automatic transmission the vehicle has to be running and up to operating temperature. If you checked it not running and it was low, it's definitely going to be low when it's running.

Thanks
I went to dodge today and asked the mechanic that checked my truck before I bought it.
He said it was a little low. I bought a litre of tyranny fluid , he added 200-300 ml.....I checked it after...seems high...I'm so confused....anyways .the mechanic checked it like you said.
