That's crazy. I also have Allstate and my monthly payments dropped like $6 a month. That's from a 2010 SLT Big Horn c/c to my 2013 Longhorn c/c.

Trucks use to be a lot lower to insure, but then they determined that since the trucks had full frames and sat higher, they would do more damage to the smaller cars in an accident, so they started raising the rates to compensate.

So, instead of being rewarded for driving a safer vehicle, you are punished for driving a vehicle that will do more damage when it hits something.

Just had confirmation from my insurance. I'm upgrading from a 2012 Ram 1500 Quad Cab ST to a 2013 ram 1500 Laramie CC 6.4 bed. and its only 128$ more for the whole year. Not that bad considering that the 2013 Laramie is Worth twice the price of my 2012 ST

I contacted my insurance company (Allstate) with the exact VIN of the truck I was looking at. They quoted me a whopping $200 (With a $1000 deductible.) per month! I had been with them for almost ten years. I had my house insurance with them. I have had (As my new agent at State Farm put it "squeaky clean") no violations on my record, ever.

When I balked at the price they did the "We'll see what we can do." They came back with a $146 quote. Why the hell didn't you say that at first? Not that it was all that better

So I told Allstate to put insurance on the new truck when I bought it since I was driving 3 hours with the new truck to bring it home.

The next day I went shopping for insurance. State Farm quoted me $66 (With only a $500 deductible.) a month for the truck and they shaved $10 a month off my house insurance. So, I had to cough up another $400 for first month, last month etc.

I couldn't believe the almost $140 ($150 with house) a month savings State Farm had over Allstate.

Moral of the story is check with your insurance company and remember if you switch you will need the extra money for the new insurance company.
I'm at about $65 a month with State Farm. My GF had to switch to Allstate when she moved in with me and started renting out her house (State Farm will not insure rental properties). Just for kicks, I asked Allstate about their rates for my truck. I almost choked, almost laughed and politely declined their "services".

I don't get how they can say it with a straight face. Are they in denial or good actors? When I called from the dealer both of the agents were on the phone so I talked to the secretary. She said she could add the insurance and then looked up my policy. When she got to the quote part she said "Wow, I hope you're sitting down." and then told me the price.

She must not have gone through the straight face training yet.

You're in good hands staying away from Allstate.

Wow... I'm 21, have one wreck at fault on record. I pay $200 mo for my ram $1000 deductable and $95 mo for my 98 Silverado liability only. I don't think its TOOO bad considering age, wreck, ect. I've looked and looked and can't find anything cheaper. Oh well, comes with being a young male I guess.

Mine Ram is $52/mo. It's the exact same as previous ride: '10 MKZ AWD. Sometimes insurance companies like to take that time to insert a huge hike. AmFam did that when I bought the MKZ. It was going to be >$600 for 6 months. I dropped them and went to Travelers for $300 less. A year later, AmFam called me and begged me back -- beating Travelers price. It's all a game. If you have a clean record, shop around.

One of the drawbacks of living in a big city. I pay a combined $190/month for full coverage on my truck and the minimums on wife's car. No wrecks, tickets or other issues ever.
