I had the same thing happen to me on my old 4x4 s10 blazer except the rear drivers side wheel.
I knew it was going bad but I was younger and dumb and didn't change it out. By the time I did he said if i had hit a big enough pothole it would have fell off. The bearing was gone and grinded the axle... no bueno and very expensive.
