Thumbs down How Much of UConnect Depends on Sprint

My new Ram is coming in a few weeks. I've got the UConnect with NAV. I'm confused as I look at all the features. Here in the UP of Michigan, Sprint is pretty much non-existent. What features are satellite related, and how many features are dependent on Sprint? I cannot believe that Chrysler would go with Sprint.
It looks like I cannot enjoy a lot of the cool features of the system. From the coverage map, it shows that I am in a "data roaming" area.

As i understand it
Sprint has really nothing to do with NORMAL Uconnect

You pair your own cell phone to Uconnect & use it as you Normally would for phone calls etc.

For $21 a month you can use the APPS that i don't believe exist yet ????
That may work with Sprint

here is something that i found online, but it was written last August & i believe is incorrect
http://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/08...-ram-uconnect/

this is possibly more accurate, but just as confusing
http://www4.sprint.com/whitepapers/d...yvalue=arx58ne

This is currently what is going on

RAM is nearing the end of the production year, free uConnect trial periods will soon come to an end and uConnect still doesn't do anything useful. The only answer the CSR's have is "soon".

NAV sucks, I want my Garmin navigation as advertised, not this crap!

Cover art, why only from the SD-CARD ????

VR, works fine for the phone call but I can't speak a navigation destination for love nor money! And when VR fails, it changes the radio source. What is that about?

I don't have uconnect in the Ram but the wifes Jeep has the new 8.4an system that is almost useless IMO! The NAV is awkward and not easy to use, sometimes it finds what your looking for and sometimes it doesn't. Voice command sucks. The Chevy she had before was 10x better!

The media center locks up and the screen goes black pretty often...dealer doesn't know why. Because it doesn't have a cd player they are having trouble re loading the program, this I don't understand because it has usb.

None of the apps are available yet, who would pay for a service you can't use? From what I understand these apps will run through Sprint.

One good thing about it so far is that it can be a wifi hot spot, IMO it's not worth the price to use it all the time but nice to use on a road trip.

It was easy to pair my phone to it, the wife and I both use iPhone 5's

A few weeks ago my wife and I were visiting my Mom in Ohio, she lives rural and doesn't have internet. My wife (teacher) needed to get on the internet so she could enter her student's grading. I said, no problem, the truck is a wi-fi hot spot.

I go to the truck to buy a week of wi-fi, it processes the transaction and for the next three days, all it would say is pending. Never did work.

There is good news, for uConnect that is. The part of uConnect that should have delivered my service didn't work, the side of uConnect that bills my credit card does.

What concerns me is why Chrysler uses Sprint to begin with. If they used AT&T or Verizon, at least most of the country is covered. As I said earlier, Sprint hardly exists in northern Michigan.

I believe it was 2011 when some radios with Navigation were suppose to have the Travel Link & they could NOT use it
Chrysler/SIRIUS finally got it working & they sent out what is called a CSN, customer satisfaction notification, it stated that the customers that were suppose to have the 1 year trial period & did not have that part working as stated, would get another free year of service. it was called the
Customer Satisfaction Notification K40, Monroney Label Information, 2011

Hopefully they will do the same for you that own the 2013s

WOW, I had no clue they use Sprint..interesting. Anyway, I personally have had no problems anywhere I've been in the rocky mountain area except when off-roading with no cell access. My sales rep told me it all worked off satellite which ended up being a bunch of crap. Can't even use voice commands or get detailed NAV unless there is cell service. I do like it except for the removal of Bing in lieu of Yelp which is the worse thing ever!!!
