Default Hemi oil consumption

My 12 Ram was serviced at the dealer when it had 2500 miles on it & when I serviced it at 3700 miles I used Valvoline 5w20 synthetic. It really wasn't due for service but we were going on a long trip so I wanted to do it. It now has 5200 miles on it and it has used a quart of oil. This is the first vehicle I have owned in the last 30 years that has taken oil. Did I screw up by using synthetic oil? And yes I did put in 7 quarts when I serviced it.

You didn't hurt anything. You might have extended the time that the rings get seated. What helps seat rings is loading and unloading them. Next time your out and you need to pass a car, nail it. Let it redline and shift to next gear. Do this from time to time and rings should seat right in fine. Keep a eye on oil level.

I agree maybe some ring wear in, or lack there of. In addition I would run out & grab a catch can for your ram. I did & man do these motors push oil threw the pcv. I change out every 3 thou & w/ mobil ext perf full syn. When I do my change I check my catch can unless it's going road tripping then I'll check it sooner than later. I last put a c.h. under 3 thou & swapped out the dino juice in doing so I checked/ dumped the catch can & she had about 1/3 in it of oil. So it's a hell of a system maintenance aid if nothing else. Could you imagine all that finding it's way to my combustion chambers! Just nasty. Any ways enjoy your truck pal.

Just last week I had the dealer change the oil due to it being part of my deal with buying the truck. This being my second oil change at 8,000 miles I wanted to change to synthetic which I supplied Mobil 1 - 5w-20. Anyways when the tech handed over the keys he told me to watch the level because synthetic oil has smaller molecules and will be consumed. I have ran synthetic oil in all of my vehicles and never has an issue of losing oil, and never heard of this before. This goes along with what 82corvette has encountered though.

Only vehicles I've ever owned that drank oil like that were RX-8's.

Modified 2-strokes if you ask me

I have noticed when using Mobil 1 syn oil in any vehicle it will "burn/use" it. I have run it in my 01 WS6 (ls1 eng) 29k miles currenlty, my 02 BMW 325 (m54 2.5l I6)82k miles currently, and my wifes Nissan (1.8 I4) 38k miles currently. All three would be down atleast 1 qt before 5k miles. I have also noticed this with RP oil. I hav enow switched to Castrol syn oil to see if it will be the same issue or not. BMW recommends Castrol anyway and my nissan dealer uses Mobil oil (not mobil 1, just dino Mobil). My WS6 gets driven less than 2k miles a year.

NOw this is just my observation of this oil. Others may be different. I work for my local Mercedes dealer and we use Mobil 1 EURO 5w40 and I have noticed these new trubo engs will burn a qt within 5k miles also.
