Default Toyota Tundra Troubles

http://jalopnik.com/tag/toyota-tundra-recall

I had heard about this recall on the older model Tundras. My buddy currently drives a newer model 2007 Tundra he has been told that his vehicle has to be stripped down and some kind of rust inhibitor has to be coated over the entire chassis and then the vehicle reassembled 3-4 days in the shop!

wow, man you wonder how bolts will be left on the floor after a job like that and how good a job it will be, I mean, don't get me wrong, some techs are real good at dealers, but I usually see way more idiots. Oh well, hope that does not happen to our Rams

My experience in/at most shops is that out of all the guys working there there's only 1 Tech. The rest are for the most part class B and few class A mechanics.

Not saying all shops, just my experience.

Good ol' Toyota and their rotten frames. The Tacoma's went through this, and now the Tundras. The frame on my FJ Cruiser was a mess, along with plenty of other components going south due to salt when I dumped it off at the Dodge/Toyota dealer. I feel sorry for whomever eventually purchased it. I figure it will be a matter of time before they further expand that recall to the FJ Cruisers.

Bhahaha, Toyota...

Just stick to the small trucks Toyota, in fact, go back to the 22RE and a steel bed, those were decent trucks. Leave the big trucks to the big 3...

Not really. Their small trucks rotted and still rot just as badly. They even rust in parts of the country where even old FIATs don't rust.

The previous generation Tacoma's went through a major frame rust recall in northern states. I had a 2010 Tacoma when that was in the news, and was trashing around the Tacoma forums back then. The exact same frame is under the current truck, so everyone is expecting that their trucks will eventually be under the same recall in the future, with some people already showing signs of severe frame rust in the salt belt. My FJ Cruiser was a 2007, and it looked like hell underneath. It's life before me was New York, and New Jersey. I had to pull the plastic part of the bumper off to install an OEM receiver hitch, and the metal tabs below the rear door that give the plastic some structure powdered when you put pressure on them. The rear diff lock actuator quit working ($1100 to replace) due to salt corrosion, and the ABS modulator was also failing - that being a cool $1800 just for that part. As much as I loved the FJ, there was no way in hell I was going to start down the road of thousand dollar plus a month repair bills. Oh, and the FJ grenaded a front wheel bearing 10 miles out of Minot on the way to the dealer to trade it in. Yeah, I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.
