I still don't understand who or why the debris was cleaned up but at this point I guess I'll never know.

Did you happen to mention to the mall that you were going to pursue them for the damages citing lack of security etc? Find out who's in charge of the mall and bring it to their attention. They may just look at the video so they can say it didn't happen there and then offer up a plate number. I'd try the old reverse psychology route.

I may just do that. Thanks for the tip. I hate inaction like this. So not necessary. Just show me, make a copy and let me take it to the Police. Easy. because if they don't, I'm out five hun for the deductible and this tool gets a pass!

If I had to guess the reason why they took it, was because of the paint transfer from their car onto the debris.

Their thought likely being that if the damaged goods are gone, it will make it near impossible to prove it was them.

I agree with the others, talk to security and see what they can do.

Or at the very least call one of those free lawyers that you hear about, and see if they can give you any advice.

Keep us up to date.

Yikes!!!!
Man, this blows and I know exactly where you parked based on the building in the back ground.
That would tick me off too
I'd say, go back to the mall and get the cooperation of one of the managers to work with the cops. May have to do some leg room to get your claim through.

Only thing I can think of is that the debris (part of your bumper) was stuck to the Mazda and they drove off with it hooked to it.

I too agree talk to the management of the Mall see what they say. If they say there is nothing they can do then use the I might just have to go to the media and tell them how unsecure their mall parking lot is and how not helpful they were with regards to cooperating with the police. usually they will then try to do what they can to avoid bad publicity.

I'll wait til I get a rental before I go back to that mall. But I'll probably try to get them to give me what they have. If they don't, I've got like five friends who are cops, I'll get one of them to speak to them.

You could also make a tag title including the Mall Name that would come up on search engines, post a picture and what happened. Something like that

Put it on a Photobucket picture with the mall's name for all the world to see...and tell 'em what a-holes the security is.

I'd get a piece of plywood and park by the entrance and go back next week. have it standing up down the center of the bed...

"I got ripped off here and there's nothing security will do"

Chances of them releasing footage directly to you are very low - chances of them releasing to the police are much higher. Basically if you find somebody that's being helpful to you at the mall, ask them to review the footage and make a copy for the police. Once the mall has completed a copy of the footage they can call the police and give them your police case # regarding the video. Usually an officer will then come by to pick it up.

That being said, if your getting the run around - you have another route. It's a PITA to everybody involved but will get results - and that's filing a request to information to the mall. The request can be as simple as you wanting verification that a camera is recording the spot where your vehicle was parked. When you get a yes that there was coverage, provide that to your insurance.

Good Luck!

PS- call the police and ask who was assinged to your case, then keep on the investigator as to the footage...a lot of security systems will re-record over the footage if it's not saved in a certain amount of time.
