it really does not matter where the Hitch Receiver sits height wise

you would want your trailer to sit level while driving & that means that you have to select the proper Ball Mount that fits into the Hitch Receiver

here are some different styles

if you are doing heavy towing, you likely would want a Weight Distribution System

I tried installing the Curt 13333 hitch on my '13 Quad Cab 1500. It didn't fit. The vertically installed "FLAT HEAD SOCKET CAP SCREW" with the 1/2inch hex slot did not align properly - it was too far forward in the bumper support hole. I called Curt tech support and the guy said some of the '13 Rams are made that way. Kind of frustrating - the Curt products seem good based on reviews. Hopefully I will find a hitch that fits.

Dodge tried to charge me $595.00 to put on their version of the curt 13333 on my new truck. They told me that all the 13's had a class IV built in already from the factory. Somehow when you bolted it on ( the 13333) it magically changes it to a class IV, even though curt calls it a class III. We went round and round for a week, and then the customer service manager calls me and says we'll eat the 595, you keep what we put on & do whatever you want with the hitch. I took it off and put a real class IV on even though I had to modify (cut) what Dodge installed. The curt I installed was from a 2012. I could not find a real class IV for a 2013. Since I essentially have 2 class IV's installed on the ass end of my truck does it make it a class 8? Just kidding! About the class 8 that is. I'm still waiting for the credit to be put on my account, but I've only had the truck for 3 week.

This is not just a '13 problem, I just come back inside from attempting to install mine on my '12 because the holes did not line up. Not very happy.
