Default Post pics of your canoe!

I've got an 18 ft canoe I need to be packing around. I'm looking to see some pics of your ram carrying one. I don't want to spend another $600 for a rack so I'm looking for affordable options. Even shots of aluminum boats etc would help. Since I've got the topper on now I'd really like to see canoe/topper combos but I'm happy seeing any setups you've got

IMHO, you might want to reconsider a rack or perhaps a small trailer to transport your canoe. I have seen smaller canoes than yours, strapped in the bed of pick-ups with the tailgate down. Also, I have seen it done with the tailgate up, which puts the canoe at an upward angle. With an 18' canoe over half of it is likely to hang off the tailgate which I would not feel comfotable with, though it probably can be done. Sounds like you want to save or minimize the expense, perhaps you can find a rack or trailer on Ebay or Craigslist for les $$$.

You plan to put it in your bed? No trailer?

Get one of these, you wont screw up your truck and you wont screw up your canoe. And its safe, and you won't even feel its there.

I'd like to avoid the trailer if possible. And it's definitely too long to just go in the bed and hang out the back. It would need to be some type of rack system. Like this but....not

Somebody mentioned foam blocks that sit on your roof so you can strap the nose and tail down but I don't want anything resting right on the new paint

If I was putting it on and off every weekend, I would get some nice slim line roof racks and leave them on all summer, I would also put some 3m tape on the area's where they hook up to the roof of the cab, get some nice thick 3m tape.

get a couple of these for the roof, you can use them for other things also down the road.
