I bought a dodge full size 440 cubic inch auto 4.10 gears and changed the tranny for a 4 speed out of a super bee back in the middle 70's for 5700.00. Man that thing was fun 0-60 but would only do 102 mph and real loud in the cab because of the gears and I got close to 20 miles a gallon so to me they are no better with all these new electronics as far as milage.

FYI, the S10 was never a rebadged anything. It was a new frame that incorporated most of its running gear from the Monte Carlo/Malibu line (G bodies) minus the V8s. I had an 85 S15 (GMC version) with the 2.8. It was a good little truck once I ditched the aluminum headed 2.8 (warped the heads twice and mixed oil with coolant) in favor of a newer 4.3.

The attached scan is from the September 1982 issue of popular mechanics.

It says " Most people don't know that the "all new" Chevrolet s-10 is actually an Isuzu Pup with a different body. Even the S-10's standard 1.9Liter engine is built in Japan."

But after doing some research on the net, http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/colorado/history.html I believe you are correct and that popular mechanics were wrong.

Maybe pop mech were mixed up because the Chevy Luv pickup was an imported Isuzu pickup?

Anyway, thanks for the correction.

Trevor
