Default Transmission Experts Please Read!

I've been watching as many videos, and reading as many posts, as I can get my hands on regarding transmission options for our fourth generation trucks. And to me, it looks like there are some stout transmissions out there as potentially viable options:
  • Paramount NAG-1
  • 68RFE
  • SRT10 Automatic (48RFE)
  • L&M Modified 545RFE
  • Newer Sharadon Modified 545RFE

What I'd like to know is the differences between the transmission themselves and what the difference is between L&M and Sharadon. Also, is it even possible to use the SRT10 or a 68RFE on our Ram's? I've heard the NAG-1 is too much of a PITA to be with it but I'm unsure of the others.

In a perfect world, my gut would tell me to go with either the SRT10 tranny or the 68RFE since they were both built to handle my level of power, provided they would play nice with my "all in one" ECU.

NAG-1 won't be a bolt in, since it is designed for the GC/LX/LC platforms, you would need a stand alone controller. Same thing with the SRT-10 auto, although that is the 48RE, not RFE (it's a diesel trans). Same situation with the 68RFE. I wonder if you could somehow get the programming and/or PCM from a newer Ram to control the 68 (possibility?). The top 2 545RFE trans builders that I have seen/heard of are Sharadon and ATS, these will be plug-n-play.

There's a new player at the top.... and the ATS 545 is a glorified purple paper weight.

They make excellent converters though

Is it possible for the dealer to just flash a 2500 program to the 1500 PCM's? That would eliminate MDS and give you the gear ratios of the 66 (68rfe) which should be plug and play but I cant ever find a straight answer.

I don't think it works that way. From the videos I watched, the internals are different between the two.

Are you affiliated with L&M? If so, preach on as I for one need to learn about our transmissions!

The 66 still has the same ratios as the 45. The 68 sun and planetary gears are opposite to the 45. I have been trying for over a year to figure out a way to tune a 45 to handle 68 gears, but still no luck.

Hey Mike,
Why not just use the entire 68 trans from a diesel 2500 instead of modding the 1500 trans?
