Default Opinions on toy haulers anddd

So..im going to try to make a long story short and generate some conversation with the hope of getting some guidance!
Pulled my Polaris RZR for the 2nd time..this time was a 260 round mile trip, loaded rzr and trailer im sittin at about 2,000 lbs. avg speed 48 and avg mpg was 13.1(is this good?)...half of the trip was highway 65-75 the other was up and down the good ol rocky mountains. So im campin with friends and fam, and they all have toy haulers. 26-32'. And all have 250s 2500 diesels..my old man has a ram...SO this gets my wondering about toy haulers for us half toners. I know their out there..but what are people using!?!?! What are you using? And what kind of MPG should one expect with say...6-6500lbs? Load leveling kit or air bags? Both? One or the other? NO im not going to go for a diesel...don't need that much truck yet. Stoked to hear the replies..Maybe some picks of what you have?!?!

This depends on your setup.
2WD or 4WD?
Crew Cab?
3.92 or 3.55 gear in the rear?

There is a place on the Ram sight that will give tow specs for all configurations of your year model. Perhaps someone here will post the link.

Example:
My Ram 1500 Bighorn Crew Cab with 3.92 rear and 2WD has the following specs:
Payload 1630 (With a 150 lb. driver in place)
Max Tow is 10,030 lb.

Me, Wife, Daughter, Dog and gear (Remember that the first 150 lb. of the driver is already figured in ) is about 350 lb. The HITCH weight of my 7,000 lb. trailer is about 700 lbs so I have used 1050 of my 1630 payload.

As for towing, I have used about 70% of my capacity so all is well within specs.

If that same truck had a 3.55 gear and 4WD, you would be looking at about 1200 lb. payload and max towing of 8,500 lb. You would be near or over your specs.

Find the grid and look at your personal setup and see what your options are.

As for the air bags, I put in Airlift 1,000's and LOVE the result for only about $90.00

FWIW, Mileage for me has been 10.9 with A/C running and 11.9 with A/C off (towing in cooler weather)

Good luck.

Wow,
Great looking setup mrpiper. Love the look of that trailer. Excellent information as well. As I am well aware of the towing specs, you did remind me to check my axle ratio again, since my dealer had to pull my truck from Montana and that dealer had 2 of the
"same" truck with the last 3 of the vin matching...needless to say the truck I picked is still in Montana, SO I need to compare the build sheet I agreed to and the build sheet per my actual vin. Or I could just look at the stamp I guess? ha.
Anybody else have toy hauler suggestions? Their experience with 3.55's and 3.92's pulling around 7K? Mpg? Figured Id see more of a response common!

Mr piper supplied you with great info. Pay attention to your payload cause this will go fast with trailers. Mine is about 7500 lbs guess, I am weighing it tmrw to know for sure. The toy hauls are where things get tricky especially if you get a tt. The hitch set up is so critical to these halftons. My hitch is an equalizer which uses metal on metal friction to prevent sway. With a toy hauler this may be hard to use bc if you don't bring the toy the hitch setup will be off really bad.

I too have the airbags however these actually prevent a wdh from doing its job and should not really be used in conjunction...I air my bags(airlift 1000 to 5 psi when towing to allow Hitch to work)

Power wise, I love the truck, I wouldn't however want anymore trailer and I do have the 3.92 rears.

Good luck on your search!
