that is correct. Mid-grade fuel is "mixed" at the pump, mixing 87 and 91 to give you 89. I am now using the 91 from shell and that also does not have the ethanol in it.

Our 2nd tank of Shell fuel 87 octane is 22.6 mpg, an increase of .4 mpg.

What sort of driving do you do?

I know that the drive from Gorrie to Hangover isn't all stop and go (which is good), but is the majority of your driving like that?

Based on your results you are getting just under 11L/100km and that's pretty damn good.

I'm getting about 17L/100km running the same gas. Of course the big difference is mine is city driving.

We have 5 stop signs from here to Hangover but the road is real hilly and this 6 speed will downshift to 4th on some hills and when it does the rpm's jump from 1500 to 2600 in a flash and then it seems to take a long time for it to shift back into sixth. We drive at 92 on cruise and really don't have any short trips because there isn't anything in this town so if we need something we have to drive. That's why we have 32,000 kms. on our RAM in 9 months. Plus 13,000 on the F-150 since we bought the RAM.

How often do you have RPM's above 2000.. That will make a different ... Gunnin off the line, racing along and such... Getting speeding tickets

I get anywhere from 640-700KM off my 90L tank..
And my 04 2500 QC long box RWD Hemi gets 19.1L/100km.. But if it isn't towing, we drive it like its a ferrari.

Hahahahahha.........hey it was only 1!! LOL......

I got it coming back to Toronto from Mount Forest. I hate to admit it, but I've been caught speeding on that same section of road 3 times!

However the time I got my ticket in the RAM, I really didn't know I was going that fast......it just sort of snuck up on me.

I'm actually quite good at not speeding off of the line in this thing. I know it's a V8 gas pig, and so I go quite easy on it. I also don't want to have to replace the rubber too quickly either.

I just think it's all the stop and go of the city driving near me. I hardly get the chance to take it out on the highway, because of where I live in relation to my office and my clients.

I can get to the office or my clients offices a heck of a lot quicker by doing city streets than I can the highway's. Of course if you have ever been to Toronto once you will know that the DVP (or Don Valley Parking Lot) is the slowest thing ever, so there is no point in taking that.

And then there is the 401. The busiest highway in North America, where a turtle can pass you whilst pulling a trailer.........well unless you want to take it between the hours of 3am and 4am! LOL.....

Where's ethanol in this conversation? Don't you guys need some corn with those Wheaties???

Kentucky Gas is 10% ethanol on 87 octane (same on 89 & 93). The old Magnum burps on 87 every now and then but it can kill your lawn tractor at less than 93. R...

I just figured out our fuel consumption for this week. Still using Shell 87 octane in both trucks, our RAM got 24.7 mpg an increase of 2.1 mpg above last week and the F-150 got a remarkable 27.1 mpg. I'm really impressed with this Shell fuel compared to Pioneer. When we got our RAM in September our first tank of fuel was from Esso because that's where Hanover Chrysler has their account. We got 24 mpg with that tank and the next fill-up was at Pioneer and we dropped to 21.6 and after that our fuel consumption got worse.
We filled up with 89 octane this week to see if the RAM will stop surging off idle. The F-150 is still on 87 octane.

I only get 300-350km per 90L tank and I have to use 93 or higher fuel due to my custom tune. I wish Shell had a 94oct like Petro does. I go into the U.S. and get my gas off the Indian reserve, last tank of 93oct was 92 cents per liter compared to 1.50/L here in Canada. I do mostly city and drive it like I stole it, so it just chugs fuel, but it sounds so good doing it, lol.

Believe me if there were no speed limits or cops around my fuel consumption wouldn't be this good. The service manager and mechanic both said it didn't hurt to open them up once in a while so I actually did on the way home from Hanover and the RAM seemed to peak at 172 (107.5 mph) or maybe I was chickening out.
I figured out the Ford and got 25.7 mpg this week, a little less than last week. I'll do the RAM when I get fuel in Hangover tonight before rollerbootin.
