Default Ordered Outdoorsman in March, still not here!

Hi,

New member here. I was eventually going to get around to joining here so today is the day.

I was wondering if anyone has any information why a 2013 ordered in March still hasn't shipped by July. Today begins the sixth week the truck has been listed by the Vehicle Order Tracking System (VOTs) as undergoing "Final Inspection".

Is anyone aware of maybe some parts shortages or something else which could explain 6+ weeks of "Final Inspection"?

According to VOTs, it took about 3 days to be built, after 2.5 months of being firmly scheduled.

I wonder if any options you included are on quality hold? I ordered a Ram Outdoorsman and got it just about 8 weeks to the day (mid april to mid june).

Some of the random features were 6'4" rambox, air suspension, and most of the available electronics. I did *not* get the 8 speed....

Also mine was a 1500, not sure if yours was or not.

I ordered a outdoorsman but a weird set up for one I sure, I just liked the pained grille and chrome bumpers, but got monotone. Anyway I ordered it mid march and had it the first week of may. It's a V6 8 speed. I am sure it has something to due with the options you ordered.

All good stuff guys, thanks.

I actually received a call this morning early from Customer Service (CS). From the ensuing conversation it appears that my 1500 Outdoorsman is in a selection of 1500's equipped with the Rambox that failed "Final Inspection". Seems like Rambox electronic lock logic has failed in some respect to expected logic.

In my case, this actually is no issue. It would appear that I made a mistake when ordering the Rambox setup, which for 2013 models is quite camper shell/top/topper/cap etc. incompatible.

I almost always have some exotic, expensive geophysical/geochemical equipment in the bed of my truck. So, my mistake. I should have ordered the bed sans Rambox. I have to have some sort of secure shell to provide some minimum security for equipment almost invariably owned by others.

Given the apparent fact that the Rambox lid hingeline is probably well inboard of traditional Leer/ARE/Snugtop specs., I will probably end-up spending the OEM factory price of $750 for the Rambox system that I will have to obviate by fitting a non-Rambox camper shell etc. Grinding out and away the inner-bed "plasticity" that the Rambox entails.

The problem here is that this evening, I have not been able to find a reasonable shell/top whatever compatible with a non-Rambox equipped 6'4" bed.

Which is where I find myself this evening. I could care less about the nascent/imminent/eventual Rambox (fixed locks or not). For better or worse, Rambox for 2013 seems incompatible with present-day topper/etc. offerings.

Again, my mistake.

At this point, I would be happy to accept a solid 6'4" camper shell/whatever that I have to paint myself. In one way shape or another, this nascent next truck will have something other than NO security for items storable in the bed but too massive for the questionably, at present, Rambox's. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This does indeed include custom fabricators.

I never use shells on my trucks, so can't help with specifics of finding one. But Ram 6'4" beds have been around for years, there HAS to be someone that makes toppers for them?

Be uber expensive, but you could get exactly what you wanted that way. Just Google fabrication in your area, should be easy to find - I know there are dozens in my area. Besides super expensive, it might take a long time too, though. Good fabricators are often backed up for months at a time...

Do you need the height of a cap? If not you could go with a locking tonneau cover. I have a Bakflip fibreMax and it is great, no one is breaking into that.

Well, I appreciate the thought (tonneau cover), but I can't seem to get my mind wrapped around them. They allow you to carry about half what you can carry with a locking camper shell, and in my case, I could cut holes in one so that I could get the equipment which I commonly carry to field sites (which sit higher than the bed rails).

BTW, the dealer just informed me that the shipping date has been moved up one week from July 18 to July 26. Why do I say moved up? Well, I was going to start shopping for a Ford Raptor if they missed the July 18 scheduled ship date, so I started that today, saving a week!

Yes it was supposed to be a 1500 Outdoorsman. As of today it might turn out to be a Raptor............
