Default Navi during a phone call?

So is it just me or is the Navi locked out while on a phone call, obviously I'm referring to being on a call via the uconnect system.... Was on a call this morning and tried pushing the Nav button but it would not switch. I was able to switch to the radio screen or the climate screen, but not the Navi. Interesting. That was one thing i thought I'd be able to do as in the past I've always used my phone for Nav and having Verizon, it doesn't let you use data while on a call and that sucked. I didn't have a route going or anything and will try that soon. Just thought it was strange.

You mentioned that you used your phone & Verizon for calls & navigation ??
Does your Ram have its own Navigation capable radio, the RA3 or RA4 8.4"

i know that with my older Ram & radio type, i can be in the Navigation mode & press the Phone button & make a call vocally, then when the call is done, i press the Phone button again
The Navigation continues to work during the call, except i believe the voice that tells you when to prepare for a turn is muted during a phone call
I don't ever touch my phone after i start the engine, i do everything Hands Free

If you are using your phone to use Uconnect & Navigation, possibly your phone does not have the ability to do both at the same time ??

I must be missing something, wish i could actually find someone with a 2013 Ram in my area, i would like to experiment with this new radio
Too many questions & no where to find the answers
no one has posted Youtube videos on the new radios that is really pertinent in real life usage

Your post got me curious, so I had to test this as I also have Verizon. My test, though, was based upon the truck not moving but rather just sitting in my garage running. I called my home phone through UConnect using the blue-tooth connected cell phone. After I answered my own call, I tried all functions of the UConnect. All of the Nav functions worked with no problem. Maybe there is some "safety protocol" built in that the engineers don't want the driver doing too many things at once.......

@GTYankee - On my previous cars without Nav I would use my iphone for everything, calls and navigation. If I was actually navigating somewhere and a call came in it shut down my nav, i.e.-the maps app is unusable because Verizon's network does not allow for simultaneous data and voice. SO back to now. I have the 8.4AN and have the iphone connected via Bluetooth. I was not actually in guidance mode (getting directions) just had the map open on the drive to work. My wife called and during the call I wanted to check out the traffic for her. I hit the NAV button on the menu, but it would not switch to the Nav screen. I will be trying this again though.

@CharlieL, maybe try this again while in Drive or moving, whatever you are comfortable with. Just try pushing the NAV button on the menu from the phone screen while on a call.

on another note, I was able to get the messaging to work. I enabled the Notifications option in the BT menu for Uconnect on iphone 5. I got in the rig at lunch today and a message popped up on the display. SCORE... I'm going to find the ongoing thread about this and post there on it for others.

OK, i know more already about the new 2013 radios
with the MYGIG radios, there is no actual phone screen, either when driving or sitting still, the very temporary screen looks like this, if you don't respond quickly, the radio goes back to whatever screen mode you were in just before pushing the phone button
that screen also disappears as soon as you make a choice

Okay - here's an update. I experienced no difference while driving. This afternoon I had an errand to run and while doing so made a call -through Verizon cell phone connected through UConnect. While on the call, I had no problem accessing the Nav function & all Nav functions operated normally while driving on the phone call.

Quick update. Driving home last night I tried it again and it worked. Must have been a hiccup. Oh well, sorry guys but thanks for the responses and trials.
