Default Knock in steering..?

I just noticed this the other day. It may have always been happening but I never paid attention to it. I've greased the elusive fitting on the drive shaft and that's the only fitting that I can find. I've checked everything on the suspension and everything is tight. It's like a slight thud or knock in the steering wheel, sometimes over bumps, sometimes just random. I've read about greasing the steering shaft where the rubber boot covers. Could this be it?

my 2500 started doing that and its been a long road of ball joints, track bars, and now wheel bearings and tie rod ends. how many miles you have on it? if its mainly when you hit a bump its probably ball joints would be my guess.or it could even be a front ujoint. easiest way to check for ball joint is raise one tire at a time off the ground on front get a big pry bar lift under tire with it and feel for movement or a slight clunk

it might not be but in my case 18k was my first set of ball joints and on working with ram right now on my 4th set of ball joints, another track bar,tie rod ends and wheels bearing and ujoints. its all covered under warrenty so id get it in if i was you. Ram told me it was a known issue on these 4th gens and they will keep replaceing. i had to fight with em because it was within their specs but if its makeing noise they should replace it for you.
heres what mine had: First set of joints and track bar i had done at 18,000 miles, sencond set at 28,000 miles, 3rd time was tie rod ends, heavy duty stabilizer, and steering linkage at 40,000 now again all new ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod ends again, stabilizer ,and track bar 48,000 miles

Thanks man, I just got the truck back from the shop because the sunroof drains were messed up. Back to the dealer we go.
