I don't want to hijack this thread, but since we're talking about customer complaints then I must definitely add to this.

Being an CRCA/RCABC roofing contractor, I do have my complaints when it comes to customers.

1. Don't lowball me. If a bargain is what you want then you can pay cash to some hack roofing crew and have them throw on some cheap ass roof that will last 6 months. I only do the best, and the best costs money.

2. Don't complain that it's messy. I have two labourers doing their best to keep your yard tidy and clean, and by the end of the day it will be tidy and clean. This is roofing, it gets messy.

3. Don't complain that it's loud. We have a compressor, multiple roofing guns, hammers and other tools in use throughout the day. This is a construction site, not a library. And you shouldn't be sleeping during the day anyways.

4. Don't act like you're smarter than me. I do this for a living, and I've been doing this for a long time. I don't care how much research you've done. I'm a licensed and certified professional contractor. You're not.

5. Don't ask me to do other things outside the contract. I'm not a plumber, I'm not an electrician, I'm not a drywaller. Can I do those things? Absolutely. Do I want to? No. I want to do your roof, and that's all.

6. Don't be upset that your little pagoda lamp broke, or your plant was stepped on. We do our best to protect your house and your yard but these things happen. I will replace it, and you're still getting the best roof.

7. Don't get pissed off that my 17-foot dump trailer is taking up so much room in your driveway. We need space to put this trailer so that we can dispose of your old roof.

8. Don't get in our way. For any homeowner, roofing is a hassle. Not only is it expensive, but it can turn your homelife upside down. So stay out of our way and let us work so we can finish up your home faster.

9. Don't forget about us. Once our work is completed, our roof is working for you day in day out, 365 days a year for the next 50 years. We need you as a reference to continue to installing the best roofs money can buy.

10. Don't disrespect me. Contractors with the experience and skills that I have are in high demand. I am lined up with work until next year. I have no problem walking away and moving onto a jobsite where I am respected.

I can relate to all of that. Before I started turning wrenches, I was an electricians apprentice, and pretty much everything you wrote can be applied to any contractor!

Hey Incognito....I have something to say about #3.

I used to be a graveyard shift worker......for 15 years! While I had to learn to sleep through most noises sometimes you just can't sleep through construction noises! So in defense of those people "who shouldn't be sleeping during the daytime"...when should we sleep?? Something to think about.....

I do have to agree with Blue on that one, I work nightshift alot and there's nothing worse than trying to sleep with a construction crew outside your window. I remember one time I was trying to sleep while a new sign was being put onto the hotel. They had their JLG RIGHT outside my window with the alarm on... BEEP...BEEP...BEEP all day. I was a little cranky to say the least.

Aside from that Incognito, I totally agree; between my current safety job and other summer jobs I used to work, I know how you feel. I like #10 the best, at some site i'm just "that f**king annoying safety guy" but i'm there for RESCUE and to PREVENT the need for rescue... so why are you an ass to me? If you go down, your ass is relying on me!

I have a few from some completely different industries. One in which I am currently employed, and one if which I was formerly employed and will soon be returning.

Right now I am a Kayak guide and Salesman for an outfitter on Key Largo. Although most of the customers I get along with great, here are a list of complaints about the aggravating few.

For when I'm on the water:

1. If you are too fat to walk, what on earth made you think you would enjoy a kayak trip?

2. If you hate the outdoors and/or hate the water why did you sign up for an eco tour through the mangroves in a boat 14" deep?

3. If you realy enjoyed your tour and you wish to tip me, a good tip is money! Less good tips are offers to "Hook me up with a great deal on TV if i'm ever in Wyoming" or an offer to buy me a drink. Chances are if I am in Wyoming I will not similtaniously be in the market for a TV and I don't really know you, plus I'm still working right now, so while I enjoy a good beer the timeing is a bit off.

4. If someone falls out of their boat and I am helping them climb back in, everyone else shut up. If you had the self rescue or assisted rescue experiance I did you would not be on a tour. Let me do what I'm paid to do and help this person without you shouting improper advice.

5. Unless you paid for a private tour, show up on time. Nothing worse than starting a tour with a bunch of unhappy people that had to wait for you because you didn't plan enough time to get here.

For when I'm in the shop:

6. No I can't give you any better a deal and no it doesn't help if you hold out to ask my boss. I don't work on commision so I usually volluteer the best price I can give you. I can only give you a better price if you are willing to offer me a new job cause I'll need one.

7. No I can't throw lots of things in cause you are buy a boat. This is especially true if you are buying the cheapest boat we sell.

8. Don't act like I'm trying to rip you off or trick you when I say "The coast gaurd requires a life jacket and a signaling device". Just man up and buy the PFD and Whistle.

9. If you don't want to buy a real roof rack, don't come back and complain to me that the foam blocks and walmart rope through the windows don't seem too secure.

10. If you rent our equipment please respect it. I do clean every piece of equpment that come back, but if you are going to slather the boat and life jacket with fish guts have the courtesy to take care of that mess yourself.

And now from when I was a college instructor:

Complaints about the students.

1. Not everyone gets to be doctor. Just cause daddy is a doctor and he pays your tuition does not mean I am going to pass you. If you want a good grade try studying.

2. Just because you are on your third try at anatomy and the nursing program will not accept additional tries does not mean that I am ruining your life. I don't want to have to quiz my nurse on muscle groups before I get a shot.

3. I know things happen in everyones life but don't expect me to cry for you if you miss a quiz and I won't let oyu make it up. This is why I let you drop 2 quizes. It is not my fault that you used your drops on the day you were hungover, and that time you wanted leave for vacation early. Ever hear of the boy who cried wolf.

4. Do not expect me to have your exams graded by the next class. Do you have any idea how long it takes to grade 220 essays, let alone the rest of the exam?

5. No you can't have a special extra credit assignment just for you. It is against univerisity policy on academic fairness and I don't have the time to offer this everyone.

6. No you can't make up lab next week. Once I take this lab appart and set up a new one, the old one is gone.

Complaints about other faculty:

7. Just because you teach this class a particular way does not mean that I do. I will cover the material in my own particular idiom and so long as my students are succesfull in subsequent course stay out of mine.

8. If you are not paying me to be a full time faculty member do not expect me too attend department meeting and listen to the rest of you squable over issue I don't get to vote on.

9. Please do not walk through my classroom durring class and dig through the equipment. How would you like it if I showed up and your church to "borrow some wine" in the middle of a service.

10. If you are going to use equipment for your class, put it back. You don't know what I have planned and those reflex hammers you took cause "no one uses them anyway" might have been really important for my reflexology lab this week.

In any case I'm just venting a bit.

I couldn't resist myself so for your reading enjoyment here are some of weirder and frustrating real life situations I've experienced on the fire service.

1. Hello, why did you call 911 today? "My chest hurts" Why? "I don't know" Why? "I've been drinking and snorting cocaine for 4 days." OOOOOkkkk!

2. I know it's 3am in the morning and my son is a nurse but I didn't want to bother him so I called you to check my blood pressure.

3. Patients who deny something when you ask them their medical history and medications and then you get them to the ER they tell a completely different story to the nurse.

4. "I just need a ride to the ER, I don't want you do even touch me."

5. "I pay your salary so you better take me to whatever hospital I say." Really, how about NO, you called 911 so you go to the nearest appropriate hospital.

6. People who inject themselves with drugs but when it's time for an IV all of a sudden they are afraid of needles. What???

7. When I ask "are you allergic to any medications?" I don't expect an answer like "dust, pollen, grass, cats....."

8. I don't care how "bad, hyper, sneaky" your toddler is, make sure he/she is strapped into their child seat while driving. But they don't understand that in a sudden stop, unstrapped child = new windshield - child.

9. "I have a stomach ache and I've been vomiting all night!" When and what did you eat last? "I had a bucket of kfc and a 2 liter bottle of coke after I came home from the all you can eat chinese buffet." ?!?!?!?! I couldn't make this up, seriously.

10. "I know he beat me but I love him, tell the cops not to hurt him." This is the most frustrating of all situations and it makes me angry as hell.

Wow, I gotta say, this thread really makes an entertaining read, and it also makes me realize what a PITA customer I sometimes am, but having worked in customer service for waaaaaay too long, I feel all of your pain, and I do consciously try not to be so bad, but patience never was a quality of mine, but in oilfield trucking....to our customers:

1. Don't call me with your last minute emergency, because I know as well as you do that YOU dropped the ball and expect me to cover your butt! Guess what, I don't earn brownie points with your boss. If you needed it yesterday, you should have called yesterday.
2. Ok, if it takes a load an hour to go from point A to point B, don't call in five minutes wondering where is your truck? They are driving trucks, not flying jets.
3. Yes, it will take at least an hour to get a truck to your location for a pick up. Do you sleep in your car so you're ready to roll as soon as someone calls?
4. If you schedule a shipment that is to load or unload after hours or on weekends, please ensure someone will be on hand at both locations. It is not my job to do your logistics. If you want me to do your job, please sign over your paycheck to me.

For co-workers:

1. You work a 12 hour shift. I work a 12 hour shift. There are only two of these in any one day. Therefore, you have just as much time to get YOUR work done as I do. Here again, if you want me to do your job, I will gladly take your check.
2. Work starts promptly at either 0600 or 1800, whichever shift you are scheduled for. This does not mean 0605, or whatever time you feel like making it in. If you are on time, you are late!

For my drivers:

1. NO, I will not call and wake you up! Are you going to call me and wake me up in time to get to work? If you hear your cell phone ring when I call, why don't you hear it when you set the ALARM?

Well, I almost feel better, that's like therapy for work lol, and yeah, gotta agree with Blue, some of us have to sleep during the day, so keep it to a dull roar will ya' haha!

Yeah as someone who went through EMT course (everything except the final written test, and found out I was going to med school and decided i didn't have time to take it) and someone going through med school I've heard a few of these too.

I don't know how many times i've been burned when I ask a patient a question and they say nothing, then the supervisor asked the same thing, but flipped two words around and they tell everything.
So many abused women still love their abusive partner, especially when he's being nice, it's called the honeymoon phase. That and the woman can be afraid that if the partner feels the she ratted him out, she'll get abused harder when they get home, or worse. Domestic violence is a very tricky situation.
Do you ever feel like an ambulance is a glorified taxi service to the front of the E.R. line? I know a lot of the paramedics i've been around think so.
