Default Looking for more horsepower!!!

Ok guys, I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 4x4 and I'm looking for a little more "pep" in my step without breaking the bank, lol. I was wondering what ya'll would recommend. I've heard superchips are good, but don't want to spend over $300 for a lie. Would really like some input from people more experienced than I. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

$300 bucks? Seriously? That's a couple tanks of gas these days. Look for more money first.

First step would be cold air intake and a cat back exhaust.

Beyond that; headers, rocker arms, custom ECU tune (or a chip), under drive pulleys.

Even more? Cam, Hughes or Mopar intake manifold.

Still more? Heads, high compression, stroke it!

Are you Crazy!? LQ9 swap with TKO600 trans + turbo = 750hp daily driver -OR- 6.4 HEMI + supercharger = ~600 daily driver

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the replies! I was looking at Superchips which are $339 on ebay and were wondering if they were as good as they make themselves out to be! I'd be willing to spend the money, but I'd like to know how they work from someone who already has one. I appreciate the time you guys took to reply to my thread, thanks again!

BTW I've done a catback exhaust thus far. Going to do a cold air intake with an Amsoil air filter setup in August. Next will be a tuner!

SC is the best all around programmer for stock, i.e. no serious engine mods. Depending on what gear ratio you have, a numerically higher gear (lower gear) will help with getting the big old heavy truck moving.

SCT tuner by Hemifever will give you the most bang for your buck. I have it and it's great. I've tried a lot of stuff for more power (kegger mod, headers, cold air intake) and sct is the most noticeable.
If your good with your wrenches I think roller rockers are a big bang for buck power

I wouldn't waste my money on a Superchips, unless it's the only mod you'll make. The SCT is a better bang for the buck, then the roller rockers. Maybe a 50 mm throttle body, then the keg mod.
I have a cat back exhaust and HAD a CAI (see below). The SCT made the biggest difference.
Your factory air intake is a CAI so I wouldn't waste money on an aftermarket one unless more extensive mods were planned. Stick an old school 14x3 chrome air cleaner on instead.
These engines suffer from low compression, poor heads and crummy cam specs, which is why the rockers work so well. Untill you start jacking with the 1st two issues, bolt ons other than superchargers and the like aren't much help.
