Never noticed this before. You say there is a tranny flash for it? I am out of warranty but do have the lifetime I added with the $100 deductable. would think they would check it for free......right?
Yes there is a flash update. Mine would downshift hard that the wife even noticed it. Shifts fine now and a little boost in mileage too.

This is the problem I'm having and trying to learn about. It happans in town, usually coasting no throttle to a stop from 30 mph down. I'm thinking of getting a FlashPaq; anyone know if this will perform the quicklearn function mentioned above? I have a code reader and it's not throwing any codes.

Or is it all of the shifts? Does this happen only occasionally, or every time? Does it happen both cold and warm?
Mine is a 2010 and it does the coastdown shift and when its warm (from 4-3). It's annoying! Whats the fix if any? Btw 86K on my 2010. Just started recently, or lets say I never really noticed it til recently.

Calling dealer now. Hopefully they can do the Flash, we'll see.

See if you can figure out which shift is harsh. Use the ERS buttons on the shift lever to limit the top gear, then try a coastdown from each gear and see what you get. Get up to speed so you're in the max gear each time. Note that ERS "3" is an extra gear (we call it 2nd prime or 2P). Here are the shifts you should get (on coastdown to a stop) from top gear in each ERS position:

ERS "2" = 2nd gear max, you'll get a 2-1 downshift
ERS "3" = 2P max, you'll get a 2P-1 downshift
ERS "4" = 3rd (direct) gear max, you'll get a 3-1 downshift
ERS "5" = 4th gear max, you'll get a 4-3, then a 3-1 downshift
"D" = 5th gear max. I think you'll get a 5-4, then a 4-3, then a 3-1 downshift

Give it a try, and see if it's one particular shift that is harsh all the time.

Just got back from the stealership and they did the ecm flash... Was hoping it would be covered under warranty but with no luck, I paid the $52. Drove it back and it seems to be fixed. Lets hope it stays that way for a while.

Good thread here thanks!

I notice the hard down-shift as well...while coasting to a stop.
When I'm pulling my 32' travel trailer (6,000 lbs), that's when I notice the hard "Pop" into gears (like when it's trying to drop a gear). I use Tow/Haul mode when pulling too.
There are times that, when I put the transmission into gear (from park), the truck wants to lunge forward, and quite harshly too.
