so noticed my bolt holes on my exhaust ports are starting to look bad so I have decieded to go with head studs to take the stress off the aluminum heads so if I cant get any of them not to work the mach. shop said they would charge 10 buck a hole to fix it. so went to orillies and got doorman studs m8x1.25 by 50mm they are class 10.9 which is about the same as grade 8 but they only had six in so they said the others will be in by 830am

I like the idea of studs to because it is a pain in the ass to try and put the headers on and try to start the bolts so it would be good to just have to hang it on the studs and put a nut on

so update so far today I spent over an hour cleaning all the carbon off the pistons man the pass. side took forever the back one was the worst the driver side took about 15 mins of that time.I wish I could have turned the motor so I could get the edges of all the pistons but got 99% of it all off. then started putting the header studs in because my bolt holes are starting to go bad and to take the stress off them that took about an hour and half. I had 3 that were bad and took a long time to get them going. I had to go to the dentist so taking a break until this heat breaks so hoping to get it all done today or by the morning depending on how it goes.
cleaned up pistons pass. side

driver side

paint after clear coat dried

I like this thread, it's like a 2 in one while Sean's busy with house work lol Great job getting that motor all cleaned up. I don't mind doing maintenance or installing parts, but when it comes to taking motors apart and walking into the unknown I'm scares me, I'll admit it. I can take things a part all day long, that's easy. But I have a habit of re-assembling things with extra pieces left over lol

LOL. Anything to keep my thread alive. At least he has a 4.7L, and it's white...he fits right in

You just have trouble reaching up and over the grill. lol jk

I don't know why my first reaction is to be a smart *ss...my wife tells me I'm an *sshole but I think it's funny lol. All in good fun.

Your'e not kidding on the extra parts. When we put my buddy's camaro together after rebuilding the engine and doing a 6 speed manual swap, we had a BIN of extra parts lol. The whole time we were like "ok, I'm pretty sure this hose was necessary". Amazingly it started right up on the first try and running fine that was in december haha.

the best way to avoid that is to put all the bolts you can back in their hole while they are out and they ones you cant either get duck tape and wrap them and write where they go or same thing with zip lock bag.
