Default Magnum build gone wrong!!

Okay so I decided to revamp my 94 4x4 1500 with the 5.9 360. I use a mixture of vendors for parts, SummitRacing, jegs, and of course Hughes. So the original plan for the top end was this.

Lunati Voodoo cam 220/226 @ .50
Comp Cams Roller Rockers 1.6 Ratio.
Custom Eprom from Jet too run the cam.
Ported/Polished heads.
Full cut on intake runners Port/Polish.
2x-true 52mm throttle body bore with air horns removed.
Mopar Performance PCM.
8.5mm StreetFire Wires, NGK Plugs, Accel Cap and Rotor.

After calling around and seeing that a custom programmed Eprom was 485 dollars without a tune put in yet I decided to skip the cam from Lunati and go with a mild cam grind from Hughes 208/214 @ .50. This cam works well without Eprom progamming, and great with a tune.

The throttle body and intake I milled myself so no wait or worry there. Summit sent the roller rockers though they was 1.6 magnum for AMC motors which means I am 6 days behind on my build shipping them back and switching order to Harland Sharp 1.7s. 4 hours later I get another delivery from summit with head gaskets that are for the LA block, Another no go. Next are the set of header bolts, which I have no idea how these was screwed, they where for Chevy SB. So more parts I have to return and reorder setting me back further. Hughes by far has been the best, Everything I have ordered has been mistake free, I even had a Plenum repair kit in the box that I did not order.

The other set backs, 2 header studs broke in the head, have to tap both of them, over torqued one plenum bolt snapping it, have to tap that also. Comp cams behive double valve springs, they do not supply retainers with the kit, so have to find and order retainers. The Comp Cams rockers came with pushrods, Harland Sharp doesn't, and lifters for the cam. Hopefully I can get all this in over the next week! I want to get the top end wrapped up so I can get the roll pan purchased and put on and off to the paint shop!

Regarding the AMC rockers......there was no Magnum AMC engine. However, the Magnum rockers were taken directly from the AMC design since Chrysler bought AMC several years earlier. There was nothing wrong with the LA shaft rockers, but it was a chance to mix it up and roll profits back to Ma Mopar with the redesign. Basically, without seeing them, it's probable they would fit perfectly. On LA block/Magnum head conversions the lifters are also an AMC part number or aftermarket equivalent to that part. Even the LA head gaskets will work on Magnum heads. The LA gaskets have oil passages for oiling the heads, but since the Magnum does not, it's not an issue. Still, if they messed up I'd make them fix it.

That's wild, I've ordered $1000s worth of parts from summit, never a mistake until I started parts for Dodge. They screwed up on the u-joints, but that's minor, and they had the money back to me in 3 days.

If you want to sell the rockers, lemme know...

Good luck on your build, sounds like a good one!

Well I sent the rockers back, I am having them exchanged for harland sharp 1.7s. I was alittle concerned with all the lift totaling .844 using the hughes cam and the 1.7 rockers though I am running a double coil comp cams spring that doesnt bind until 1.150 so I could actually run a even bigger cam but don't want to hassle with programming which cost alot of money since the OBD 1 is Eprom and cannot be re-written. Jet performance wants 800 or so for a new chip. Crazy. Anyways things are starting to pull together and getting back on track though I had to wait on a snap-on spring compressor because nothing I had would work with the double coils. Just hoping for a finish in the next week when the new rockers come in, ready to put some pictures up!

SOmetimes its better to buy local...get to know some of the independent parts stores, they typically have way more knowledge then the box stores and online retailers...I thought comp cams had a set of roller rockers for the magnums...could be wrong, its been awhile since I've been in their catolog...
