Default Want info on DVD backseat system

Can anyone who has the DVD player from the factory tell me how it works? Can you control the movie from the front seat or does it have to be done in the back. I would like to add a DVD player for my kids but am debating on if I should get the mopar system installed or if its a better option to get aftermarket headrest monitors. I'd love to be able to control each screen from the front since my current 2 year old can't really push play. We just got back from a long trip and we borrowed some cheapo strap on headrest monitor and that thing froze up every 20 minutes or so. I can't deal with that again on a long drive!! Lol

Any advise/suggestions?

The DVD player must not be popular at all in the new rams. I only saw one online that listed it in the truck and I think its only am option for the laramies/Longhorns.

I think I'll go the aftermarket route but I still need opinions. Should I let them cut into my headrests to mount screens or should I buy the replacement monitors/headrests that I've seen others using? I really want to be able to control it from the front though and I'm thinking that might be an issue.

I am actually getting an advent system installed this weekend. The headrest are factory replacements for the current headrest in the truck. As far as I know, there is no integration into the head unit. Comes with two IR headphones and two remotes. Also, installation is rather painless from what I have been told. Here's a link for info on the headrest.

Also a YouTube video demoing the units.

They use the factory leather codes so that everything matches.

Hope this helps.

That would be perfect if our radios would allow the control from it like in the video! How much did you pay for yours and did you install it? I'm guessing the lockpick would allow DVD control to the 8.4an when/if it ever comes out.

once the lockpick comes out it will allow you to control the video from the radio if it works like the one i have in my '12. i just have the cheap strap on DVD players/monitors and wired my lockpick supplied VES out to them. worked great during our recent vaca, i was able to even play to the front screen when my wife wanted to watch the movie with the kids.

1,600 installed with a 3 year warranty. I will have pictures later this weekend once installed. I am not sure how the lockpick stuff works, but I plan on just feeling for the button on the headrest to press play. Both of my kids are under three, so I will have to control it for them too. Because I have the longhorn leather, the price goes up quite a bit to match the leather. I really like that it comes standard with a 3 year warranty. Most of these systems only come with a 1 year warranty. There is a control box that integrates the two, so you may be able to at least get the video on the nav screen.
