Default Found my truck

I was not even sure this model existed but I am now the proud owner of my ideal truck. its a 1986 4 wheel drive with a slant six engine and a 4 speed manual trans, exactly what I wanted.

I was told that the drivetrain was all original and it looks like it I guess, I was told that it has a dana 44 front and rear, does that sound correct for the model truck? Maybe there is a tag that I can take a picture of for someone here and I can get it decoded.

How can I recognize these diffs as Dana 44s?

I am also wondering what model trans is in it, as mentioned 4 speed with granny low, it also has the cover for a PTO if one were inclined.

Supposedly has a new clutch, previous owner at least looks like he jerryrigged alot of things, it chatters REAL bad when taking off in low or first gear, alot of pedal, maybe its out of adjustment, not such a problem taking off in second or at least not nearly as noticeable or more manageable if it is there. Any ideas what might be the deal with that.

The truck is as far as I can tell ( I am a bodyman with enough experience to tell whats what ) there is no major rust except above the windshield, the drip rail is completely rotted away, makes no sense cause the floorboards, inner/outer rockers, bottoms of doors ect are so clean you can literally eat off of them.

I am not going to mess with the drip rail, I went and looked at an 84 yesterday afternoon that sat outside for many years on a concrete pad and there is Zero rust on this sheetmetal, I plan to buy this and swap out the cabs, it all has to be disassembled anyway for paint, the doors on this donor cab open and shut as if it were still sitting on the showroom floor.

Can someone please confirm for me that an 82 cab/doors/glass ect are the same as this 86?

More later, thanks for the help.

dana 44 front, but the rear is likely an 8 1/4 (not 9 1/4 and not dana 44)

Never seen a dana 44 rear axle in a full size dodge truck, and they used 9 1/4 or dana 60 behind the v-8's back then.

It was optional for a few years. Havent seen many of them, but they were out there. Another common one was to pull them of the FSJ trucks as they were damn near a bolt in.

How would I tell what sort of axles are in the truck, also need to know the type of trans. I am not having much luck locating rubber for the truck, I need all new seals all over, door seals ect.

Hey! It's called jury rigged, not jerryrigged. If it was Jerry rigged it would have been done right the first time and you wouldn't have to repair anything. I always fix everything right the first time, always have always will, lol. All said, have fun with your new toy and good luck with the parts....Jason

Take a pic of the cover, and compare it to pics online, there are numerous places to see what axles are what and determine what you have.
