Default Looking at buying 06 Ram 4x4 but have question

So I am looking at a 2006 Ram Quad cab 4x4 with 97k miles on it and it drove great. My question is the steering felt heavy to me. I used to have a 2010 Ram QQ 4x4 and the steering felt lighter.

I put it in 4wd and that worked normal. Had the usual front wheel bite so you know it is in 4wd. And it came out of 4wd as normal as well. The steering just felt heavy though. Not sure if I am just reading something into this or if it is an issue. Any input from others?

Steering on a 2006 will definitely feel stiffer or "heavier" on the 06 over the 10. That's just one of the things I've noticed that has really progressed with the 4th gen Rams. You could verify that the power steering fluid is topped up though.

I have an 06 1500 mega cab 4x4. There were two recalls on tirod ends. Had one break while driving. Chrysler fixed it. Then a year or so later they recalled that one.
thought I'd mention it. Good luck.

I've got an 06 2500 Quad Cab 4x4 and I love the heavier steering feel they have, it gives you a lot more input from the road. I have a 2012 Ford F150 King Cab that I drive for work and it has a lot lighter steering which I can't stand, you get virtually no feed back from the road at all. I'll take the heavier steering any day, especially when you travel at higher speeds.

i bought mine that many mileage on it a two years ago. but right after the papers where signed. i changed all fluids and did a major tune up and leveled it and did slotted rotors and ceramic pads all the way around. i love it except i had to fix a few water leaks.

i think it's a dodge thing in the gen 3. i got an 07 power wagon and the steering feels heavy too but like the other guys have said it's a good thing. it gives better input from what the front end is doing. i have noticed that the tires do make a little difference in how the steering feels as well. i went from nokian a/t tires to a more aggressive higher ply tire and felt a difference in the steering.

Thanks guys. I did buy the truck and love it. It is not as nice as my 4th gen 2010 Ram was but it is very nice. I have been kicking myself since I sold my 4th gen.

O'well, took this one to the mountains pulling my 29ft 7500lb travel trailer and it did fine. Guzzled the gas heading up the mountain but what can you expect. I was surprised though that I had to bounce between 35-40 pulling a 6% grade for 5 miles though. Thought it would pull that hill better.

your pulling a 7500lb trailer. you have a 1500 of course it's gonna suck the fuel. and pulling a 6% grade is a steep hill. and doing it for 5 miles is a long way for a hard pull. remember your 1500 isn't ideally spec'd for pulling heavy loads like that. it will do it but the gearing in a 2500 or 3500 is better suited for work like that. and hitting a hill like that and doin 35-40 mph pulling a big trailer like that i think you did pretty well.
