Default Hemi running louder than normal

I have a 2005 ram 1500 5.7L hemi, intermittently it will sound like its running very loud. Especially on acceleration. Also feels like it is losing a little bit of power as well. Sometimes it will run very quietly, other times i can barely speak over it while sitting in the cab. Anyone have any idea what it coul be? I have panned the web looking for answers with no luck. Please someone help!

Check exhaust from the headers Back .. U might have a cracked header or hole in the exhaust

Yup. The excessive exhaust pressure during hard acceleration could cause the exhaust to push out through the crack in the pipe at an audible level.

Either that or it could be your fan shrowder or clutch fan making the noise. It could cause it to get louder as you increase the throttle as well.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Will do. Don't know a whole lot about engines, so is a cracked header expensive/big fix?

I had a fan clutch start to stick. At first, it would roar until the engine got hot. Eventually it got worse and roared all the time. You'll probably lose about 30 HP with the fan clutch locked up so it will feel sluggish. Luckily it was a warranty repair for me (and the only one so far!) so I don't know what the repair cost would be.

Didn't think about that. I had mine stick too, sounded like a peterbilt when I was at a higher rpm
