Default add steering wheel volume control

Anyone have any idea how to add steering wheel volume control to a 2013 SLT with the uConnect 5.0 stereo system? The steering wheel has the punch-outs for volume control on the rear of the wheel. There was some talk about doing this on another forum and all that has been suggested is replacing the steering wheel (not really feasible - major expense) or an after market kit like the "Metra Axxess Universal RF Steering Wheel Control Add-On Interface" available on Amazon;

http://www.amazon.com/Metra-Universa...ontrol+adapter

I know, I should have just bought it with the option in the fist place... but I don't see why it isn't possible to just buy the volume control switch part itself and have it installed on the rear of the wheel like factory install. Obviously, I'm not in any way as informed on automotive electronics as some on this board so any thoughts/comments from others would be much appreciated.

I am surprised your truck didn't come with it, I have the unconnect 5.0 in a outdoorsman (slt). I figured it just came with the stereo

Yeah, it seems odd right. I was aware of it before buying but didn't want to wait for a custom order or spend many thousands more to upgrade to higher model with features like leather etc... Can't deny missing it though and though it would be possible to add somehow.

Guess not!

is the steering wheel pre wired for the controls? I saw them for cheap money on ebay and some other sites. How expensive is a steering wheel with them?

Not sure about the pre-wiring. I don't see why they don't sell just the volume control unit without the wheel. They sell the cruise control unit separately on eBay. Complete steering wheels range in price from $100-$500 from what I've seen but those were pre-2013. I'm also not sure if it has to be a 2013 wheel or if an older one will work, or just the steering wheel volume control from an 09-12 ram might work too but haven't seen those for sale online either. Might try and talk to a wrecker and see what they have.

More than likely the stereo is built ready for the controls. If you want to add the controls then you'll definitely need the buttons and the clock spring. I dont think you would need anything else...
