With today's technology, using an argument not to buy a truck or to get upset about it not having a CD player is like getting upset that the new computers don't have 3.5" floppy drives anymore or that new Wranglers don't have leaf springs. Technology is constantly evolving and those who fight it simply get left behind. I see it everyday at work, being a manager of engineers and designers, that some of the older folks resist the advancement of technology and quickly fall behind. It is sad because they often have so much experience and knowledge to share with the younger people, but they are too stubborn to change. It's the older, experienced folks that stay current with technology that are the best at what they do.

The technology in the RAM is pretty advanced and if that upsets someone, they should grab their Walkman from 1990 and plug in into the RAM's receiver with a mini jack. CD's are archaic, dated, don't hold much music, and add danger to drivers when you are fishing around trying to change one out for another.

There are many, many ways to rip CD's to a flash drive that are free and you can put dozens and dozens of CD's on a flash drive. A single flash drive will hold what a dozen CD changers will and cost one tenth as much.

When we bought my wifes Jeep I was a little upset that it doesn't have a cd player but the usb or sd card is a lot nicer than any cd player! Now I'm wishing my Ram had the new technology in it so I could use my sd card in it!

When I got my truck.. It came with a Steppenwolf CD already in the cd player.. I took that out and have never used it since.. I only got an aux plug-in.. USB would be nice.

I'm still waiting to hear how my dealership plans on fixing my USB ports (in the radio face and in the upper glove box) as neither of them recognize an inserted thumb drive. Pathetic. So I have been doing the CD reach-of-death routine since I have no options other than the radio or Sirius.

For about $100 you could have ordered the "single CD player" but you failed to do so. Surprisingly, CD's are now considered obsolete and vehicle makers are not including them in production units any longer. However, you can order the optional single CD player if you really need one.
Like others say, just use a flash drive and be happy. You can buy a good 8GB drive for about $9. You can fit quite a bit of music on it.

Have you tried a different USB drive, or tried reformatting the one you have? Failure to read is often an issue with the drive, not the device you are plugging it into.

The OP is 48 years old...definitely the generation that still finds CDs relevant...I do less and less...if it's an artist I love, I'll buy their CD....otherwise I stick to downloads...music quality is just better on CD than mp3 and it's weird not being able to touch the music you own... not trying to open a can of worms... !that said I still have a ton of CDs...divested myself of most of my collection though...

But for the price the OP paid....ya I'd want a CD player....

question for the OP, do u own an ipod or smartphone that stores mp3s? Do you have a son or daughter..? kids are always knowledable...maybe they can transfer your fave music to an ipod or phone...and teach u how to set it up...
