Default 2013 Ram front bumper

Hello, been a while, but I've finally joined the club!

2013 Ram (Tradesman/Express; really it looks like a cross between the two, but I did get my chrome) 5.7L Hemi, 4x4! Got her yesterday but she's mine now!

So after driving it...well anywhere I could...I've noticed that the front bumper has really low clearance. At least that's how it feels, I had a 4x4 Dakota (2003) prior, and it felt like I had Jeep-like ground clearance.

I'm going to attach an imgur.com upload of the part of the bumper I'm talking about. It's the black plastic that attaches to the very bottom of the bumper, it looks like it just bolts to the chrome on mine. I pulled into a space and BARELY cleared the curb...and I'm in a 4x4.

I was wondering if anyone has removed that/thought of removing it? I know the skid place (I think) for the front differential has about 9" of clearance (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm a civil engineer...not a mechanic) but I feel like it's just behind the wheels and would be a real non issue if I took off the flimsy plastic that I'm just waiting to hit something with.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, if I spend another penny on my truck this year I'll go from posting in the Ram message boards to missing persons boards/back of milk cartons. My wife would be the #1 suspect.

That being said I TOTALLY want Nitto tires on my Ram, but I was thinking a leveling kit/something to lift the front up a few inches first.

I noticed the same thing. Very low clearance for a truck. And same here I can't afford to spend to much at the moment. But a cheap and good way to get a little more clearance would be new shocks. About 400 $ roughly for all 4. Look into it.

The air dam on my '13 hangs lower than the one on my dad's '09.
