100% correct on all points made. One could probably tow a 747 with a VW Bug... if on a runway where there is plenty of room to stop and no traffic.

Whatever you do, make sure you visit a CAT scale and get your weights once you're loaded up. I tow a 2012 28' Airstream Intl and I did a weigh and 2 reweighs after dialing in weight distribution. You have to move weight from the TT to the TV...not just for a civil towing experience but for safety as well. Lots of folks get weights when they're not loaded. Remember a 40 gal. full water tank weighs o/a 320 lbs.

This really should be a "must do" for people towing on a regular basis, to get an accurate picture of how much weight is involved as it can really add up. A good way to do it is stop at a CAT scale on your way out on a trip and not only weight the TT, but the tow vehicle.

I pull a 26', 6000+lb travel trailer with my 2006 dakota with the 4.7. You'll be fine towing 5000 lbs with the 5.7 1500. Trailer brakes, a brake controller, and maybe a weight distributing hitch is all you'll need.

Some folks on the Rv forums are thinking I am going to be very close to my tow rating.. am I missing something?
