I agree.

you may think carfax is a joke, but see how much your vehicle is worth if you go to sell or trade in and the carfax isn't clean. then come back and tell us what a joke it is.

What we are saying is its best not to bet the farm on a car fax. Look yourself for over spray, marks on the frame or unibody where it has been clamped to a frame rack. Lift up the carpet in the trunk look for wrinkles in the floor. Check the hood bolts to see if they have been moved same for the fenders.

My charger was insured by farm bureau. State farm, and alfa vision all spent money on it. Not a one reported it. Just sayin' dont take a carfax as golden ticket.

i don't put any faith in carfax, but if it is used a selling feature and it turns out the dealer did the repairs there should be some recourse.

Thanks for the replies, I bought the 2012 new, dealer had the accessories installed by the manufacturer ( Ranch Hand ).

Today dealer called and gave me a 1-800 which is direct to RAM, I'll inquire with them tomorrow.

If no results, maybe I'll warn others about this with a bill board on IH 35 !!

Sounds like the OP has a condition known as "primer sink", where someone used too much body filler, and it flexed/cracked, and the primer sank (with the paint) into the crack. Looks like a crack under the paint, but still shiny, right OP?

They are not, which is how my ram had an $7,000 repair done. I caught it before I bought it and got them to knock it off the price though. The trained eye is able to tell the tailgate and some portion of the bedsides have been re-worked, and that the chrome bumper is not OEM (chrome is not as shiny as front bumper). I caught it, and it all seemed superficial. The carfax was clean (new truck), but they had repaired it on their lot. I liked the truck alot so I asked them to eat that cost and they agreed (they had been trying to pass a wrecked truck off as a new truck).

When I caught it, they agreed to fix the flaws, and deduct the repair cost from the price.

I am ok with that. It is also under warranty forever because it was repaired by Tacoma Dodge's Collision shop on site.

I'm just guessing the head ache rack weight is what caused the cracking. It probably catches a little wind and the weight of it trying to wobble back and forth might have caused the cracking. You have to understand the dealers position on this, they installed the stuff but did you ask for it to be installed? If so and the add ons caused the problem why should they fix it? I'm not saying its fair, its just the way it is.
