Default Rear Differential Options

I guess my bearings are shot. There is a whining/humming noise when I am driving 40+ and accelerate and stops when I let off the gas. Differential fluid wasn't in bad shape, but I changed it and it's still making the noise. There is no play in the driveshaft or pinion. Rear end was rebuilt 5/12 and 12k miles ago. The shop that rebuilt it is gone.

A rebuilt differential is $1250 + $500 core, and I can't afford that. If I can't find a Chrysler 9.25 axle with 4.10 gears in a junk yard, what are my options? Can I convert a Dana 60 rear to a 5x5.5 bolt pattern? I need some help here...

I would rebuild it again myself. New bearings and seals. Just look at the gearset real good before going back together to make sure they are still in good shape. While you have it apart it would give you the opportunity to change from 4.10's and/or add a locker (if you wanted to that is).

diff's aren't that hard to do, save for setting the bearing preload and lash. do the rest of the work yourself, and then have the shop set those, if they will. the speed shop in my area will, at least. way simpler, IMO.

I just don't have the time or tools. School starts Monday and I will be doing 16 hours at 2 different campuses, with football games and trying to work.

Right now, the game plan is to get it rebuilt and sell this POS.
