Default evic inaccurate fuel economy (pentastar)

Hi guys,

I was wondering if this was normal or not? As soon as I shift into drive or reverse, the fuel economy reads 99, then slowly counts down. Even without my foot on the gas and the truck slowly moving, it reads very high (50-60 liters per 100km)It only settles down once I'm at a steady speed. Once I come to a stop, it counts back up to 99 and stays there for a couple of seconds then resets to 0.

Is this normal? Truck has only 2500km on it, and I can't remember if the evic did this from the start. It's kind of annoying now, as the fuel economy numbers are being influenced by this inaccurate fuel reading.

Thanks

No this is not normal. Have you reset the mileage in a while? If that doesn't work it is probably going to be a trip to the dealer.

Definitely not normal.

The only time you should see those types of MPG numbers is rolling down a hill, foot off the pedal, moving steadily and the MPG reset.

That's what mine does. If you are in l/100 km then it wil be a higher number when you are traveling very slow as you state. When you hit cruising speeds the number will lower. If you set your evic to mpg, the opposite will occur. The number wil go higher when you hit cruising speeds and decrease at very low speeds.

Your truck is operating as it should.

At idle, you get 0 miles per gallon, or essentially infinite liters per kilometer, which is what you're seeing. You're not moving, but the engine is still using fuel.

A US truck will show 0 miles per gallon (infinite gallons per mile) at idle, which will then slowly climb upwards as you reach steady state speed. As a Canadian truck is the opposite, reading in liters per kilometers, you'd see 99 at idle - the highest that the EVIC can display. This would then drop to a normal number as you accelerate and reach steady state.

Yeah sorry guys, I should have mentioned that my truck is a Canadian truck. Thanks for the responses. For the record, I haven't reset the mileage in a while.
I wanted to see the average fuel economy I'm getting on each tank of gas. It's the 121 litre tank as well, so it takes a while to burn it.
