Yep, this sounds like a monster of an engine for a 1/2 ton truck. This should have been the enigne in the Dodge. It will be interesting to see what Nissan is able to come up with to put it in though. I have always liked the current exterior, but the interior was crap. Put a little Infiniti design into the interior, freshen the exterior. Drop in the 7spd auto from the QX80, as it is now called, and you have a winner.

I'm not even sure that would be useful to have 500 ft/lbs in a 1/2 ton. By the time you beefed up the suspension, diffs, etc... enough to give it a tow rating that took advantage of all that power you'd basically have a 3/4 ton

My current supercharged truck has just under 550ftlbs and it is a hoot to drive. From a towing standpoint I think you are right, 500ftlbs for towing is allot of stress on the other components unless they just choose to underrate the towing, but for dumb-assing around it would be a good time. BTW, I ended up needing a built transmission to handle the power, first one was not happy and died an untimely death.

I would rather have too much engine than not enough, well, that is my philosophy anyway.

It probably won't be rates to tow any more than a gas truck... Reason is simple... Outside of the engine and trans, there's to many other parts that prevent it.. Suspension, frame, those dang P tires, axles ... on and on....

I think this setup will be for MPG and FUN!!! Not really for work because then you'd need to go HD in all your parts....

Nissan better worry about a transmission to handle 500ftlb of torque...that's about twice as much as their V-8 gasser...Motor may be bulletproof but tranny might be pile of junk.

We don't know if the motor will be bulletproof. Is there anything the 5L V8 Cummins is currently used in? Unless I'm mistaken, it's a brand new motor.

I'm not worried about the transmission at all...

FYI, current Titan puts down 379ftlbs (which some claim is underrated based on dyno numbers at the wheels), so not "Double" the current gas offering. The QX80 makes 416ftlbs and is attached to a very good 7-spd auto.
