Default 2010 2500HD vs 3500HD

I have been waiting patiently (ok, not so patiently) for the poop on the 2010 Ram HDs and see it is finally on the Dodge website.

I am considering purchase to replace my 07 Sierra 2500HD 8.1L. I am fulltime RVer and looking at new 5W travel trailers GVWR 16K - 17K#.

I chose the Sierra 2500HD instead of 3500HD because everything except springs and tires is identical. I added 5K AirLifts and upgraded tires to 165s and, presto, everything the same as 3500HD except better ride solo.

I chose the Big Block because, with 4.10 gears, which were not available with the Duramax except in a 3500 DRW, the BB tow rating is actually higher. Also saved megabux.

However the time has come to get more tow capacity and I feel the Cummins is the class act in the small field. Now I have to determine if I can upfit a 2500 to the same chassis + rear axle & spring capacity ( not Dodge rating) as 3500.

Are the chassis the same? Are the axles the same?

Hope someone can help me with this one.

GeeJay

Both trucks are available with the 10 1/2 AA (3.73, 4.10, 4.56), the 11 1/2 (3.73, 4.10), and the RBI 302 (4.10, 4.44, 4.88). The 3500 has a set of auxillary springs and spring bumpers that are not offered on the 2500. I'm not sure about the 2010 model 3500, but previous models were available in a SRW configuration. Also, I'm not sure if the frames are the same due to the different chassis designations and I have yet to see both trucks in our dealership.
