Default air bag/towing question

oh so i have a 4th gen ram 1500 sport with the 5.7 i have a offroad jeep that im planning on towing with this truck ive done some towing before for some friends and i have noticed that although my ram floats and drives real nice that once i get some weight on the back the truck likes to get a lil sketchy in the back and it seems to be the one down fall to this truck so im looking into getting an air bag set up to help with roll and sway i see there are alot of good reviews on the airlift and firestone spring helpers but there only rated for 1000lbs is that enough or should i be looking for the setups rated for 5000lbs

Depends on your tongue weight. I would think 1000 lbs would be plenty. The object is to get weight back to the front axel for control. Also, can you reposition your jeep on the trailer to take weight off of the tongue? That helps as well.

I have the Airlift 1000's on my truck and they definitely make everything a lot more stable when towing. Huge difference over towing without any airbag set up. They help with the sag a lot as well. Pictures of that in my Airlift thread linked in my signature below.

For $88 you can't really go wrong with Airlift. If you only plan on towing a few times and it isn't going to be any more weight than your Jeep I'd definitely recommend them. If you plan on towing fairly often or have a heavier load to pull then TLC is probably a better option for you.

The airlift bags on my truck really help eliminate the sway/bounce from the load in the bed or on the trailer. I agree for as inexpensive as it is it really does a good job.

I have a 97 TJ that I haul using a 18' car hauler, I installed the Airlift 1000's in my truck and it's the prefect setup. No more problems with the headlights shining into the sky

Go with the Air Lift 1000 and you wont be disappointed. I pull my toy hauler with a 670lb tongue weight and with about 14 lb of air in each bag the truck no longer squats and the towing experience is greatly improved

I also have the Airlift 1000's. I tow a 7000# travel trailer and the before and after differance was awesome. Great product and easy install.

I tow my GTO around the country and have the airlifts. You shouldnt be more than 500lbs tounge weight towing a car/jeep though.

I have a bell tech 2/4 drop on my truck but still wanted to tow so I went with the airlift also. Great product and easy to install. I have a 20ft flatbed trailer and a 3200 series Kubota with front bucket and 5ft bush hog I carry with no problems. Highway speeds and twisting roads seem just like any other stock truck.

I air the bags up to 25lbs. hook up and go.
