Default 4th Gen Grille knowledge

Hello
I'm looking for a little info on the ever changing RAM grille.

I have a 2013 Laramie and I want to paint the grille but NOT the cross-bar.

1st question... can anyone point me to a step by step on how to remove the grille/crossbar surround in one piece?

2nd Q- Once out- does the grille insert come out for easy painting or is it a single piece?

3rd- It seems like it might be a whole lot easier to paint it in place.. but since I don't know about the removal step- I'd like to be sure.

last- do the grille/surround pieces for a 2013 1500 interchange with all 4th gen or any other year beside 2013?

Please feel free to jump in with any bit of info you know- I'm hoping to piece it all together from the collective brains of the forum.
Thanks

I just did this about a month ago. First you just pull off the rubber/plastic protector that is attached around the radiator. Once you do that then you'll be able to see the 4 screws that hold the grill in place. Take out those screws and then pull towards you and the whole unit comes out in one piece. The bottom is held in with flat plastic plugs. If you don't pull towards you they will break off. Once out, you can then pull the mesh part off in on piece and then paint away. Hope this helps. http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=140620

Thanks man! It worked like a charm.
I can add a small bit of removal detail for those with 2013's

Like he said^
Remove the radiator valance by popping the 6 plastic plugs- trim removal tool a huge help at this stage- that exposes the 4 screws holding the grille in place.

Then the careful part- there are indeed 3 flat plastic tabs about 1.5 inches wide that need to be pulled straight out toward you ( you can only see one of them but you can sense the other two that are just out of view.
The step I discovered is that there are 4 additional plastic screw type plugs that are located on on the right and left side of the grille.
You can't get a trim tool in there so you just ease it back a little at a time -right side- left side= right side - left side. POP! whole grille assembly off.

Then to remove the grille inserts- at least on the 2013... about 40 little plastic tabs that need to be eased back with a wide blade screw driver. It sounds tougher than it was. My son and I did it in less than 20 minutes. 4 hands was really really helpful.

I thought it went really well!

I am one of the few chrome fans around this site- I really prefer chrome bumpers on all cars but even I was a little overwhelmed by the wall of chrome on the new Laramie.

to each their own I guess.

The grille size changed for 2013 due to the new front end design. 2009-2012 is the same. (1500 only, the 2500 is different)

I am a chrome fan too and I want to get a chrome grill insert for my 13 Express. It has the painted bumper and grill so I just want to dress the front end up a bit.
Sweet job though.
