I do my own maintenance and have used Valvoline and Valvoline Synthetic for alot of years without any problems. Routine maintenance is the key to keeping an engine clean and operating properly.

For the past 5 years I've used Castrol GTX in 4 different vehicles.

I rebuilt a Chevy 350 for a boat that had run that for all of its 11,000 hours, and the insides were AMAZINGLY clean and the barrels still had cross-hatchings. That sold me...

When I disassembled the engine, the holes in the block for the pistons (barrels) still had the original markings left from the honing machine (AKA: cross hatchings)

I grew up on motorcycles, that's where the terminology comes from...

I used to run Mobil 1 synthetic, but after loosing two gear sets and one motor while running it I switched to Royal Purple. Turns out Mobil 1 has great lubrication and piss poor heat transfer. Since switching I have never looked back, I have heard good things about Redline but have little first hand experience.

I believe the holes for the pistons are called cylinders

You would be correct, but I was being very literal, and as I mentioned, the engines I grew up on, we called them barrels, jugs, cylinders, but mostly "that hole with all the scratches on the side"... LOL
