Default towing and superchips

I have ordered a superchips for my stock 06 ram 2500 with 35" Tires. Im lucky to get 10 miles to the gallon. So im hoping a superchips will help me get a little more mpg.
At what trailer weight, should you switch to towing mode on a superchips 3865? I sometimes pull a 6x12 single axle enclosed trailer. Would you even use the towing mode on something this small? Im guessing gross weight to be 3000 lbs, sometimes more.

If you are hauling/towing 500-1000lb you should not use performance tunes. Especially with thee 2500 since it's already heavier. But what you can do instead of switching to the tow tune is use 87 octane with 87 perf tune and then when you tow/haul switch to 89 or 91 octane on the same 87 perf tune. Higher octane provides more resistance to detonation.

Thank you. I will do that. At what trailer weight , should you use the tow feature on the superchips?

Well I've towed ~4,000lb with my 4.7L with 3.55 gearing on the 87 perf tune with 89 octane at about 65-70mph. I think it would pull a little better with the actual tow tune with that much weight, but I didn't have any issues. I averaged 12mpg from orlando to deal's gap in north carolina and back. I don't like the tow tune though because you have to use 91 octane, and the mpg just doesn't seem to be good. As a comparison, I get about 20mpg pretty easy at 70mph unloaded.

I have a Superchips FlashPaq on my 07 5.7. I tried the performance tune with 91 octane at the drag strip just to see what it would do. The truck ran mid 15's and the tail pipe tip was very rich and black. The truck only had a few thousand miles on it at the time. I use the 87 octane tune all the time, even when towing. The tuner was great for correcting my speedometer for larger diameter rear tires. The Tow-Haul mode works pretty well, keeps you in gear longer and gives you some engine braking. I get about 14.5 MPG in town and close to 20 at 70 MPH. I also have an AFE CAI and an AeroTurbine muffler.

AFE CAI?

Also I run the 91 oct tune normally 04 5.7 and I have noticed that my tail pipe is black; do you not notice that with the 87 tune?
