Default Plastidip

I'm considering getting a few cans of plastidip and doing my rocker panels, since it's much cheaper than Line-X. I want it for the looks and to protect the paint a little bit- I don't really need the extra durability of Line-X, so I figure plastidip should be fine for me. From what I've read, if you don't like it or mess up, it can just be peeled off. Does anybody have any experience doing a large area, and any suggestions for the best results?

i did my door moldings on my truck. a few good coats. probably 3-4 months ago. Already starting to chip up from road debris/rocks.

i do have wide tires though and ride on dirt/gravel so. In my case it doesn't hold up. Just keep in mind in case you have a similar situation.

I'd save up and get it line-x'd. i personally think plasti-dip is cheesy. I did it to experiment and kind of regret it, I think im just going to remove the door moldings altogether or get real black ones

Here is the thing, Plasti Dip can enhance the look and it is easy to peel off as you say if you decide you are not happy with it. But because it peels off easily, you will have to be careful as the rocker panels are subject to some abuse and could start to peel off as a result, depending of course on how and where you use your truck.

Thanks for the replies- I have my stock 20" tires, and have mudflaps so I'm not too overly concerned about rocks/debris flying up

Plastidip is very easy to peel off as long as you spray 3-4 somewhat thick coats. The lighter it's sprayed the harder it is to peel off.
I'm debating on doing a two tone paint job and plan to use plastidip to see if I like it first.
I plastidipped the trunk on my car once as a temporary replacement. It was on for a few weeks and when I was done peeled right off just like vinyl. I say go for it, worse comes to worse you don't like it and peel it off.

Dipped it yesterday, here are the results:

Ended up doing the rocker panels (3 coats), door pillars (2 coats), war stripes (2 coats), grille inserts and badges (2 coats). I ended up peeling it off the front emblem, as I got a bug stuck in it and when I tried to clean it with a towel, the dip started to come off. Would adding more/thicker coats solve the durability problem? And are there any special ways to wash the truck now that it's on? I'm afraid if I wash it with a brush or wash directly on the dip, it might start coming off. The war stripes are actually better than they look in the pic, for some reason the resolution of the pic makes it look like there's red coming through, but the plastidip is solid

I have my grill, front bumper, and rear bumper dipped black. It's been 6 Months for me with only a few chips on the front bumper. As far as cleaning, soap and water are great for dirt removal. Over time the dip will fade so adding some tire shine (personal plug: Adam's VRT) works amazingly or most others will bring it back!

As far as the towel, a friend and I have sprayed dip on entire cars for cash on the side. On light overspray we will use microfiber towels and it will wipe right off. So if your coats were light, or you caught the edges of the Rams head the dip will start to come off/apart. Watch out for any kind of thinner or strong cleaners. It will mess up the dip as well.

And like many said, if you don't like it, PEEL IT. Great looking and cheap paint protectant!
