I hear ya, lost a few teeth myself with 4.56's in my Jeeps
and that's the one install I always leave to the experts.

There's a lot less room for error when you have fewer teeth engaged,
and the lower your ratio drops the smaller the pinion diameter gets,
...I've seen Dana 5.38's that looked like a thimble compared to stock 3.55's lol

With a 26" tire you will be right up on your 7k rpm limit going through the gates in 3rd gear(1:1). You'd probably be better off with the 27" tire, that'll give you a couple hundred rpm buffer and a little room if you get faster. You're current M&H's should be ~28.5" diameter which isn't too bad either.

Also, there's a big difference in temps between 3.92's and say 5.13's. You can tell by just putting your hand on the inspection cover after a race. I would think the higher heat adds to wear especially when they not set up just right. I use to have the same trouble, it's a pita to set them up perfect.
