Well if you're going to put it to work, take part of your 7k savings and get a good double axle Gooseneck trailer. Now depending on what you haul, it will drive your gooseneck needs.
2. Equipment trailer (haul for construction) e.g. bob cats, backhoes.
3. Car hauler (haul for locals, learn to flip vehicles, race teams).
4. Farm equipment, (rear hookup hay wagons) don't need a trailer for this.
Whatever your choice, you can pick the trailer up for about 5k with good brakes and tires (used) for options 1,2,3. Item 4 you need a special welded rear hook. I'm assuming it's hauled a gooseneck before. If not, for
about $300 you can wire for brakes and lights (mount the receptacle to the outside edge of the flat bed). You will need about $300 for a good tool box unless it has one. So with the $1,400 savings you have left, you should wine and dine your wife (it's her Grandma).
How about a cruise?
PS...While your at it, how about posting a pic in Dodge Ram pictures?
