Stalling it up at the line typically kicks in torque management and pulls timing (BAD)
and you will most likely bogg off the line. But try it both ways for yourself and get back to us.

Everyone I know who races a 4G Ram, myself included,
find its best to flash the torque converter from idle at launch....rev's no higher than 1000 rpm.

If you want to leave at a higher rpm,
an aftermarket higher stall torque converter is the BEST way to get around torque management.
(and even then you smash the gas from idle, no holding it back by braking)

as far as the rest goes, use tow haul mode, traction control off
put it in D and smash the gas on the last yellow (never wait for the green light)

I'm going to look into the Edge converter for sure. I'd like to eventually swap to 4.56 gears as well. I'm looking to run 22" SRT-10 wheels for the street and 17" wheels for the track and lower my truck 2/4 if not 3/5.

I've been drag racing for years, just was curious about how to get the most out of this truck. I see some guys post 92-94 mph trap speeds while others post 99+ trap speeds and I wonder why the difference. They can't be making that much more hp than one another stock to stock to account for the difference in mph so it has to be the way they are shifting these trucks.

My guess for the trap speed difference would be staying away from 4th gear on a 12 or 13 RAM. This might be done by using 3rd on a 12 or 13 or 2nd prime on an earlier model and avoiding 3rd, depending on rear end ratio of course.

x2

way too many factors/variables to consider,

Different weight (RC/QC/CC) different tire sizes, different axle ratio's, even DA plays a role, areodynamics
a headwind vs tailwind can shave or add MPH to any given run too.
Shift point RPM's will make huge difference to (stock is 5600, I shift at 6200-6400)

Spinning out of the hole can kill your 60' and ET's...BUT
can often have you close to 100MPH if you have a 3.55:1 geared truck that can hold off going into 3rd (by using 2nd prime) until you're right at the traps.

Blue Beast fastest (NA 4G ram)
is throwing down amazing numbers just by raising his shift points to 6800
( 3.55 geared RCSB Express)

But are higher trap speeds really the ultimate goal?
My target has always been a lower ET, and if I get a great hook with a higher stall and DR's, my ET's are quicker with a slightly lower trap speed.

My best ET's were 13.89 at 98.5 at 2500' DA
(converted to 0 DA = 13.41/102)

I've also had about a dozen runs at 13.9's and 14.0's
... with only 92mph in hotter weather when the DA is 3500-4000.

3.55 geared, 28" tall DR's (effective rear end ratio 4.30:1)

the goal is lowest ET with higher MPH lol.

I always look at it like this:

ET is about traction, trap speed is about hp.

Granted you could spin all the way down the track and have low MPH so traction can play in that as well.

I had a 64 GrandPrix with a 389 tri-power and close ratio 4 speed that ran 14.70's @ 101+ mph. Burned them red strip Tiger Paws all the way through 1st and most of 2nd gear!

I tested just about every way possible racing when I had my express. The best times I ever got was a 14.2 with just a vararam and muffler delete with 3.55 gears and heavy srt 22s. I usually BARLEY build up any. Just enough to get the shock outta the drivetrain maybe 1k rpms. Put in in second gear (2) on the dash and launch. This will let the truck automatically shift from 1st to 2nd without you messing with the shifter. As soon as the truck shifts into second gear press the (+) on the shifter to third gear (3) on the dash and this will make the tranny shift into 2nd prime so you don't have to worry about shifting to early or something. Leave it in 3rd the rest of the way down the track. You should just be hittin the end of the track when your at the end of 2nd prime. this would usually give me a better et and trap. best 60ft I got was a 2.1. and a 2.0 on a 75 shot. Truck ran 13.3.

Ran my 2 wheel drive crew cab last night at Atlanta and managed 3 passes before the rain hit. Running 3.55 rear with LSD, drop-in filter, Hypertech

1. No stall, just stab and go - 2.50 60, 10.18 1/8, 15.58 1/4 @ 90.24
2. Stall to 1000 and soft launch - 2.42 60, 10.16 1/8, 15.60 1/4 @ 89.69
3. Stall to 1500 and hard launch - 2.38 60, 10.05 1/8, 15.46 1/4 @ 90.19

My third and best run comes out to 14.95 @ 93.32 corrected (82 deg F, 83% hum., 30.06")

What surprised me is that it liked the higher stall speed. Planned on running it at 2000 on my next pass but the rain hit and they closed the track. With less fuel in the tank and better launch I think I could lose another tenth or two.

There were two 2WD RCSB 4th gens there, one running 15.2's and the other 15.5's so I think my times were in line with the average considering the extra doors.

Not sure why my better runs were stalled up previously but I am currently stalling at 800-1000 rpm and hitting 15.16 @ 90 with a DA that is just slightly lower. Hoping for 15 flat next time out.
